Alfred Hitchcock filmography
The filmography of Alfred Hitchcock encompasses the earliest silent films on which he worked as a title designer through to his final completed directorial effort, which was in 1976. Hitchcock started his illustrious career in his native Britain, and after achieving success there, he moved to Hollywood, where he made many of his most famous and popular pictures. In 1972, Hitchcock returned to Britain to make Frenzy.
Some of his work has been compiled into collections, such as the DVD and Blu-ray set The Masterpiece Collection. In 2013, the nine surviving silent Hitchcock films were added to the UNESCO UK Memory of the World Register.[1]
In the following lists, "American films" means films that were created primarily in the US; "British films" means they were created primarily in the UK. These labels do not necessarily indicate where the action in the film takes place. For example: Waltzes from Vienna is set in Vienna, but made in England; Rebecca is set in Britain, although entirely filmed in the US; much of Notorious takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and contains some genuine footage of the area, but was primarily shot in the US; The Paradine Case is set in Britain and contains genuine footage of the Lake District, but was primarily filmed in the US; Under Capricorn is set in Australia but entirely shot in the US.

DVD and Blu-ray collections
Many DVD collections have been released by different production companies. Many of these collections are distributed by low budget public domain studios, which have poor image and sound quality compared to DVDs produced by licensed studios. The Universal Editions contain remastered versions of each movie. The Universal Blu-ray collection has received high acclaim from several Blu-ray review sites, including Blu-ray.com,[2] High-Def Digest[3] and DVDBeaver.com.[4]
Films in R1 collections
Licensed DVD collections available in North America include:
- The Criterion Collection's Wrong Men and Notorious Women, now out of print
- Universal Studios's Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection, also available on Blu-ray
- Warner Bros.' Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection
- Lions Gate Entertainment's Alfred Hitchcock Box Set
- Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Alfred Hitchcock Premiere Collection, largely duplicates Criterion's set
(Numerous product reviews seem to indicate that the MGM Alfred Hitchcock Premiere Collection box set contains defective DVDs)[5][6]

Films on Blu-ray
Hitchcock first entered the realm of Blu-ray with the film The 39 Steps, released solely in the UK by Granada Television on October 19, 2009.[8] North by Northwest,[9] Psycho,[10] and several other Hitchcock titles were released subsequently.[11] In 2012, Universal released Blu-ray editions of the Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece collection in the US[12] and UK.[13] The US release contained 15 movies and is locked to Region A. The UK release contains 14 movies and is Region Free. The UK release does not contain North by Northwest. The packaging of the US edition and UK edition is identical, but the US version is labeled as a limited edition. In the UK, the limited edition[14] contains a large black collectible 16 page hardback book, art cards, costume sketches, correspondence, photographs and more.[15] The US limited edition and UK standard edition box set contains a small book populated with Blu-ray discs. With the exception of Psycho and North by Northwest, the movies in the Masterpiece Collection are not available outside of the box set.
The Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection is similar to Universal's previously mentioned DVD box sets, but with high definition transfers and special bonus content.[16]
