The Warriors (video game) is an open world beat 'em up action adventure video game, published by Rockstar Games. It was released on October 17, 2005 for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and February 12, 2007 for PlayStation Portable, and later on May 28, 2013 for PlayStation 3. The game was developed by Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar Toronto. As with the game instalments, The Warriors features several major supporting and minor characters.

The series centers on a Coney Island gang the Warriros, and features it's members―Cleon, the Warriors leader, known as "warlord" who is resolving to boost the Warriors a solid reputation for the gangs in New York City to acknowledge them; Swan―the gang's second-in-command―a quiet yet―intelligent figure of the Warriors; Ajax, a loud, cocky rebellious heavy-muscle of the Warriors, who's reckless actions brings him to a point where his actions have consequences; Snow, a disciplined respected member of the Warriors who becomes second-in-command after the meeting; Vermin, a loyal and cheerful member of the Warriors and a friend of Cleon; Cowboy, a passionate and ally of Swan; Fox a scout who is filled with intelligence of the streets despite his physical appearance; Cochise, a Harlem native; and Rembrandt, a Warrior graffiti artist―who is willing to rise to the ranks of bringing the Warriors "all-city". Throughout the course of the game, the first part shows the Warriors working together to make a reputation and the second part shows a mixture of separation.

The game is actually based on the the film with the same name. However, the beginning opens the scene where the game takes place―ninety days―prior to the events of the game. The first part of the story focuses on the Warriors earning a reputation, while the second part of the story of the Warriors is to fight through their way back to their home turf against the wrath of the gangs in New York City. While there were other voice actors, six actors returned to their prominent role. The actors were praised in their excellent performances (despite sounding quite a bit older than the 20-something characters they play), and the remaining voice cast delivers, too.

Main characters

Swan is one the playable protagonists of The Warriors. He is mostly quiet, and sometimes speaks wisely and also is the protagonist in the movie with the same name. He is a very calm demeanour, a strong leader who shows he is very loyal to the Warriors and often shows various signs of intelligence. During his day before becoming a Warrior, Swan was part of the Destroyers alongside Cowboy, Cleon, and Vermin but him and Cowboy left at some point. Cleon described it to be "Were finished with that Destroyer bullshit you were right about Virgil".[1] In 1978, Swan joined the Warriors with Cowboy and together with Cleon and Vermin they took over Coney Island, forcing the Destroyers to be left with the east side of Coney Island. During this time in 1979, with all their army recruited, the Warriors began waging a war between the Destroyers. Swan is also chosen by Cleon, along with Ajax and Snow to follow Chatterbox, a leader of the Hi-Hats to kill him, as retribution for invading their home territory, and after increasing their reputation, the Warriors emerged the victors after a confrontation with Virgil, which ended dramatically in his death; following the latter's death, the Warriors finally gain control over Coney Island.

Swan is announced to be the new leader of the Warriors, and through his leadership they resolve to return to Coney Island.

On the other hand, Swan begins to feel close to a woman named Mercy, who has developed a bond with Swan. He and Mercy then travelled to Union Square where he reunited with the other Warriors, and battled the Punks in the toilets. After defeating the Punks, Swan, Mercy and remaining Warriors finally travelled back to Coney Island. There, they encounter and confront the Rogues and its leader Luther, the man responsible for Cyrus' murder and the Warriors framing. However, Luther, the leader of the Rogues, defied Cyrus' truce and brought a handgun to the meeting, which he then used to shoot and kill Cyrus.

Cyrus' blame was wrongfully placed on The Warriors, which led to Masai requesting all gangs in New York search for them. The Warriors were able to battle past several gangs and return to their territory in Coney. There, they were confronted by the Luther and the Rogues; however, Masai and a large group of Riffs then appeared, now aware that Luther killed Cyrus. Masai allowed The Warriors safe passage past the Riffs, before he and the Riffs advanced on the Rogues and wasted them, avenging Cyrus

Cyrus is voiced by Michael Potts.

Masai

Masai is the now turned leader of the Grameracy Riffs after Cyrus' death. He is African-American. Masai goes against Cyrus' decision to organise a meeting that will unite the gangs, only for Cyrus not to listen. However, he was proven to be correct; Cyrus is killed by the Rogues leader, Luther and he frames the Warriors, resulting in them being the New York City outcast and Masai being the Riffs leader, calling a hit on the Warriors on the radio. The Riffs soon meet a man, having witnessed Luther firing the gun. At Coney Island, after the Rogues defeat, Masai apologises to the Warriors for the situation and makes peace. This implies an alliance between the Warriors and Rifs. Masai proceeded to kill Luther and the Rogues.

Masai is voiced by Charles Parnell.

New Bloods

New Bloods is a gang and a ally of the Warriors, wearing the same colours. They appear in occasional missions aiding the Warriors onto gang turfs; they appear when Cleon and Fox take them to Tremont to enact their revenge against the Orphans, who wrongly boasted about taking out the Warriors. They also make an appearance when they are involved with an ongoing war between the Warriors and the Destroyers for Coney Island, which later comes to an end when the Warriors emerge the victors. The New Bloods appear when after Warriors members, Fox and Snow are brutally beaten up by the Turnbull AC's, they enact their revenge against the AC's by barging inside the Red Devil, killing several Turnbull AC's and later going after it's paraplegic to kill him, as vengeance for attacking their fellow members. The New Bloods are not present during Cyrus' meeting. They also appear in Coney Island free roam, determinant by the player to choose if they want to join the playable character for bonus missions in Coney Island.
