COI

User:RyLaughlin and related accounts have a COI, hence the tag. The article still needs the promo / advertising tone and content fixed. Please don't remove templates without addressing the issues. Widefox; talk 15:00, 7 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted to the last version before COI editor LCusack started editing, which I hope addresses the problems you have so rightly drawn attention to, and thus removed two out of three of the templates. Please feel free to replace them or to make any other changes to the present version that seem necessary to maintain WP:NPOV if you think fit. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 00:53, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is it necessary to remove the entire article I've written? If it is deemed that I have a COI then I will no longer write on this or any related pages, but all resources I cited when writing this page are verifiable as I strongly feel this subject meets Wikipedia's standards for notability. I will recruit an editor to remove any advertisement-like language and whatever else needs to be done to ensure the page meets Wikipedia's standards. Please restore the most recent so I can do so. Will somebody please add content to the page Studley, Inc.? RyLaughlin (talk) 19:09, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

Article is based on WP:NOTNEWS - the two references seem like WP:PRIMARY sources - WP:PRIMARYNEWS. Without several secondary sources this article doesn't appear to be notable. Widefox; talk 13:56, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to add any of the following. If I'm able to write myself, there will be no "puffery"
-Studley is the pioneer or originator of tenant representation [24][25][26][27][28]
-Studley pioneered the commercial market survery [29](p 86) [30]
-Company was sold in a management-led buyout, renamed Studley, Inc. from Julien J. Studley, Inc. [31][32][33]
-Has international presence from deal w/ AOS Group [34][35]
-In addition to office leasing their services include industrial[36][37], retail[38], strategic portfolio solutions[39] and capital transactions[40].
-Represents 75 of the top 100 firms [41]
Also, since a deletion nom was withdrawn because there are sufficient secondary sources and this topic does meet Wikipedia criteria, can the template at the top of this page please be removed? RyLaughlin (talk) 22:23, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • I added a sentence and ref mentioning the pioneering tenant-only position.
  • I added a ref supporting the name change.
  • IMO, the other items, (international presence, services list, number of law firms represented) are typical marketing items, but not the type of material belonging in an encyclopedic article.
  • The pioneering of the market survey may qualify, but I do not have access to the book, so was unable to add it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:48, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, S Philbrick! I'm not sure if it is sufficient, but I do have a link to the page that mentions the reports via Google Books -> [42] RyLaughlin (talk) 15:14, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that works, and I have added it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 18:18, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am an employee of Studley who originally was not aware of the rules of Wikipedia regarding COI editors. I'd appreciate if somebody could add the following paragraphs:

Studley, Inc. is a privately held commercial real estate brokerage firm that specializes in tenant representation. The company is headquartered in New York City.

Studley, Inc. was originally named Julien J. Studley, Inc., named after its founder. Julien, a World War II refugee, founded the firm in December 1954. He and his firm are considered a pioneer in the tenant representation brokerage [43]. Studley is also considered a pioneer in the production of real estate market reports [44].

After a management-led buyout from Julien in 2003, the company changed its name to Studley, Inc. [45]. After the buyout Mitchell S. Steir was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer while Michael D. Colacino was named President[46]. In 2006 the firm acquired a substantial interest in AOS, a European provider of tenant solutions. The two tenant oriented real estate firms formed a new company which operates in the U.K. under the name AOS/Studley. [47]

Studley has represented 75 of the country’s top 100 law firms [48] and has served as the real estate broker for companies such as the Washington Post [49] and Time Warner [50]. The firm brokered the 1,500,000 square foot restructure and extension of Time Inc.’s corporate headquarters lease in 1999 and the 1,000,000 square foot world headquarters for AOL Time Warner in 2000 located in Columbus Circle. These transactions are Manhattan’s and Midtown New York’s largest transactions, respectively[51].

Thanks for using {{request edit}}, and for dividing your suggestions into small and manageable paragraphs. Taking them in order, I believe the first is done, as is the first part of the second. The phrase "is considered a pioneer" looks to me too much like what we call WP:WEASEL wording, and I have not added those two statements. I've added the change of name, though the source you cite is behind a paywall. I've not added anything about AOS because I can't find any source that says what AOS is or was (also, please be careful not to copy text from elsewhere into Wikipedia). The stuff about the big leases is already in the article on Steir. Do we really need it twice? One possibility would be to merge that article here. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:45, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your work and feedback. WP:WEASEL makes clear sense to me now. If it is possible, can a phrase such as 'early adopter' be used in place of 'pioneer' in this case? Unfortunately the pay wall article actually does not explicitly mention that the company changed it's name to Studley, Inc. The company has consistently been referred to as Studley or Studley Inc. since the buyout, but I don't suppose that is sufficient. I will continue to look reliable source that mention the name change. Lastly, I have no problem leaving the major deals in Steir's article, which I would prefer not merge with this article. Since the law firm reference[52] isn't used in Steir's article, perhaps it can be included here? Thank you again. RyLaughlin (talk) 19:35, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Marketing survey

I suggest that a source less obviously connected to the company should be found for the assertion about the first marketing survey. Our article here is not exactly a masterpiece , but seems to suggest that formal marketing research began in the 1920s. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:00, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know that the source is so bad, although I agree it's to be regarded with some suspicion. It turns out that the sentence we had in there was a serious misrepresentation of what the survey was about. Without looking for new sources I rewrote it to conform to what the source we have says, and I think even that much makes it sounds less promotional and more plausible. Let me know what you think.— alf laylah wa laylah (talk) 13:31, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This company has re-branded

Hi all,

Studley has merged with Savills and is now branded as Savills Studley. Savills Studley will preserve its unique and unusual approach to brokerage: an exclusive tenant representation business model [53][54]. Can somebody please update this page? RyLaughlin (talk) 14:53, 2 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit on 3 June 2014

Hi all,

Can someone please add to this article that Studley has merged with Savills, and that the combined firms are now doing business in the United States as Savills Studley? The deal is for as much as $260 million, and Savills Studley will continue to represent only tenants in the United States. The reason behind this edit request is that the current article does not mention the merger.
