Francis Agoda popularly known as I Go Dye (born April 4, 1979) is a Nigerian comedian,[1]

Biography

Early life

Francis Agoda better known as I Go Dye was born in the late 70s in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State Nigeria. He attended Ighogbadu primary school and College Of Commerce secondary school Warri Delta state. Agoda uses a reflection of ingenuity, from mere club performances, to a life of prolific entertainer, analytical thinker, invented A flying helicopter, hover craft ship, a radio transmitter and battery table fan, these inventions earned him scholarship to study structural engineering in a New York University, but he declined, A decision frowned against by his family. I Go Dye believed there was so much fulfillment in following his dreams, irrespective of the low income comedians were earning in Nigeria at that time. However, he was also the zonal project manager of Junior Engineering Technical Society (JET Club) College Of Commerce, but his passion for comedy was questionable, because comedy was alien to our society, let alone being seen as a means to archiving lively-hood. He was also the Programme Director of Press Literary Art Drama Debating Society (PLADDS) in the course, of explaining the hypothesis involved in the production of his inventions, during project exhibitions, involving other students from different schools, the young I Go Dye was a delight on stage. His explanations mersmerized the entire students and invited delegates, who were always laughing uncontrollably, each time he explained his theory, subsequently, he was invited to join PLADDS club, because of his wits and magnifying potentials.[2]

Career

In 1991, he started his comedy career at the age of 13 in Delta State Television, DTV Top Show with veteran broadcaster, Tunde Omonode. collectively he was co-host presenter, of a programme called Mock News every Saturday, with his friend Otaghware Otas Onodjayeke fondly called I Go Save; Mock News became a house-hood programme because of its hilarious nature. Subsequently, he got a contract to perform in the first comedy club in Nigeria Prest Motel Benin City. He was being paid one thousand Naira per a show. His exponents on stage gave him popularity on media stations and on one of such occasions when he went to perform at the University Of Benin, He met Baba Kome who shared the idea on performing in Night of a thousand laughs to him.

I Go Dye who believed he was set for the big stage having gained stand up comedy experience,went with Baba Kome who took him to Night of Thousand Laughs auditioning and he was rejected 4 times, by the organizers of the event. The future held greater opportunities for him, because he never gave up after too much pressure from Gandoki to Opa Williams, then Opa Williams took him the Pre-Reel Award just to watch his performances when Azuh Arinze of National encomium Magazine, Gave I Go Dye an opportunity to perform at the Pre-Reel award and he overwhelmed the audiences, As a destined child, I Go Dye took the shine with his hilarious performance, and immediately Opa Williams signed a contract with him to feature in the forth coming Night of a thousand laughs 2000.And consequently,he was made to perform at the REEL AWARD, and AMEN Award of 2000. The organizer of night of a thousand laugh (Opa Williams) presented a special award to him as the most outstanding comedian that has feature in this show. [3]

His introduction into the Night of a thousand laughs and his impeccable performances transformed the comedy industry in Nigeria, and also made night of a thousand laughs a commercial brand beyond measurable standard, which attracted international acceptance. And he was sort after, by events promoters in Europe "His First Europe Tour Was with Ehizoya Golden Entertainment which took him across 9 Countries and 18 cities in Europe in 2005. And he was also invited by NIEDO France to perform during the UNESCO Cultural Week.

I Go Dye has taken comedy around the world, expressing a unique talent in comedy. Today, in-retrospect, there is no way, African comedy can be complete without establishing the fact that I Go Dye has featured in all the biggest comedy shows in Nigeria, Including MTV BASE MAMA Award and also opening and closing shows for world; Akon, Boyz II Men, 50-Cent, Rick Ross, The_Game_(rapper), Kelly Rowland and others.[4] His artistic virtues has earned him all the awards that the comedy industry can boost of; Creative Award in Africa (CAN), As African Best Comedian, TV People Golden Award (New York), For Best Creative Comedian In Africa, NIDOE-SPAIN Award for his contribution to the upliftment of Nigerian Cultural and artistical values, Nigeria Best Comedian Award (NEA AWARD),[5] National Comedy Award (NCA) , for the Best Comedian In Nigeria, Best Niger-Delta Comedian and many more. I GO DYE is now among the UN MDGs Ambassadors around the world working to actualize the objectives of the United Nation. [6] and now a role model to the up and coming comedians with the youths of Nigeria in general.
