Jimmy the Bot

Resolved

How much time will it take?? Just curious, since this is my first time. 4 days passed and I can see no traffic, so?? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 20:04, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Carter - Public sorry for the delay. I was hoping that we could fix the bugs before new bot run. I approved second bot run. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:22, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So the bugs were fixed?? Okay, I will run it by tomorrow. Thank you for your support. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 11:21, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jim Carter - Public unfortunately the bugs were not fixed yet. There is a small chance that we do this in the next days. Till then, I would like to see you working with a newer version of AWB in a try to speed-up the process a bit. I understand this takes longer that you might expected. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:24, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm already using 5.5.4.0, is there any more new version?? Should I do the extended trial run using the 5.5.4.0 or should I wait for the bugs to be fixed?? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 11:37, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Carter - Public use 5.5.4.0 or download the newer version from the link I provided in BRFA. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 23:27, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I used 5.5.4.0, actually I ran AWB updater and it installed 5.5.4 .0 instead of 4.1. Sorry about that. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 19:50, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Carter - Public no problem. The run reviled some more issues we have to take a look at. Thanks for the help and I am sorry if you expected an fast approval. -- Magioladitis (talk) 21:11, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I expected an approval. But no worries, I can understand, just let me know whenever you get an update about the bugs. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 20:06, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Magioladitis, I completed the trial and have found some AWB issues, can you look at it once? Thanks, Jim Carter (from public cyber) 10:02, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now, should the bot be approved? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 17:08, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bot was denied till we fix issues with some tagging. Anyone who could help on that is welcome to contribute. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:54, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Intervention

Resolved

User:Magioladitis, Hi. There is a question about what is considered worthy or not worthy of publishing on a WP article page in terms of photos because of what may or may not be perceived by others as distasteful (bad taste). The editor, User "PacificWarrior101," who has lately been joined by User "Amire80," have posted a Commons photograph of Israeli singer and transgender, Dana International, a photograph which I personally feel shows bad taste and tends to "flout" the dignity and self-respect of the Yemenite Jewish people. I voiced my concerns to the editor about my feelings of repugnancy evoked by the picture on a main article page, Yemenite Jews, that treats on ethnicity and, to a large extent, the history of Yemenite Jews. Most Yemenite Jews will feel a sense of shame by seeing this photo of "Dana International" on the page that speaks specifically about them as a people - and who, by the way, are mostly conservative to religious. While I have no personal problems about discussing issues of transgender, here the matter is different. Dana International's photograph on the main page of an article which treats on ethnicity is tantamount to putting up an image of the serial killer "Son of Sam" (David Berkowitz) on the ethnicity page, Jews. Or, let's say, a photo of Israeli troops shooting at an Arab child, on a page which speaks on Israeli ethnicity. There should be a place for common considerations as for what is tactful and what is not, particularly when the photo is controversial and evokes shame. See the Talk page on Yemenite Jews, and the sub-section: "Flouting an Ethnic Group." Any advice by you will be much appreciated.Davidbena (talk) 19:27, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for not replying that. I am unfamiliar with the subject. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:53, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(I'm replying here in order not to stop the bot again.)

Regarding a permanent solution, I would suggest that if a non-breaking space appears after a digit, it should indeed be non-breaking. This simple rule seems to conform with MOS:NBSP and MOS:NUM and, I believe, should not cause any wrong behavior. — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 23:14, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mikhail Ryazanov thanks for the heads up. -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:37, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikied

Resolved

Hi, sorry to bother you with this minor question, but I am trying to figure out a legal way to direct people who type "wikied" to User:Cacycle/wikEd, the home page of WikEd, the popular editing tool. Bgwhite informs me that it's illegal to redirect from mainspace to userspace.

Would it be legal for a mainspace disamb page to link to WP:Wikied? Thanks. – Margin1522 (talk) 07:26, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Margin1522 creating a diamb age with 2 items is not a good idea. Consider using {{redirect}} in the article page. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:34, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I see you already answered my question on Bgwhite's page. This would be for the benefit of people who (like me) got confused after seeing it misspelled on talk pages like the Village Pump. But if the policy is to avoid cross-space links, then any way you do it, the end result will be a link from mainspace to userspace. So I guess the thing to do is, don't do it. – Margin1522 (talk) 08:09, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your penultimate change on line 28:

The text was originally

   Using $1.35 million in seed funding from Prolific Venture Capital[5],[1]

which I had ref'ed in that way because link [5] was only an external link for "Prolific Venture Capital," while link [1] actually identified the seed funding for the entire clause. (There is no WP article for "Prolific Venture Capital," and their company homepage is actually difficult to find because web searches treat their name as a phrase that appears in many other places.)

Of course, you used AWB and rendered

   Using $1.35 million in seed funding from Prolific Venture Capital,[1][5]

putting all refs after punctuation, but also putting the Profile Venture Capital external after the reference to the clause as a whole.

Do you think that as a matter of clarity I should perhaps render it as

   Using $1.35 million in seed funding from [Prolific Venture Capital+],[1]

instead, wrapping the external link directly around the company name and foregoing a ref?

TIA, --Eliyahu S Talk 14:37, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Eliyahu S: A link to an outside source constructed like this doesn't count as a ref but as a "link in the body of an article", which goes against WP:ELPOINTS no. 2. --Redrose64 (talk) 15:28, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Redrose64: Thanks. So I'll move that one (and one other) into a separate External links section. Also, thanks for the replyto macro - a useful addition to my repertoire. :-) --Eliyahu S Talk 22:24, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gladys Hunter

Resolved

I am the one and only son of Gladys Hunter nee Casely-Hayford. You wrote in Wikipedia Encyclopedia that she had one son P.D Casely-Hayford. "She lived in Freetown, Sierra Leone for much of her life. Gladys May Casely-Hayford died of black water fever in 1950. Gladys had a son, P.D Casely Hayford who was also a prolific writer." My mother was married to my father, Arthur Hunter and had one son, Kobina Hunter. Please make the correction immediately. You may ask me for further details about my mother and I would be pleased to assist. Kobina Hunter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.66.228.76 (talk) 20:10, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) It appears you're referring to the Gladys Casely-Hayford article. Magioladitis did not write did not the sentences in question. I added an {{unreferenced section}} tag to the article. Do you have any sources that can be used as a reference to confirm your information? You may also want to engage other interested editors by posting at Talk:Gladys Casely-Hayford. Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 01:53, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

refbegin/refend

I would suggest replacing

{{refbegin}}
<references group=nb />
{{refend}}
{{reflist|group=nb}}
{{refbegin}}
{{reflist|group=nb}}
{{refend}}
{{reflist|group=nb}}
{{refbegin}}
<references />
{{refend}}
{{reflist}}
{{refbegin}}
{{reflist}}
{{refend}}
{{reflist}}

and I tend to remove any {{refbegin}}/{{refend}} from External links sections, but add it to Further reading and References / Notes sections. Also, if there is some other multicolumn templates in there, they can be merged (for example). Frietjes (talk) 23:05, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Frietjes OK I can try it but in fact I abandoned my changes after 20 edits to give you more space to do your magic. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:07, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Eightcirclestheorem: It appears you removed the {{orphan}} tag yourself. What you listed above are references, which have nothing to do with orphans. An orphan is an article with no links from other articles. Now that Dao's theorem has links from five other articles, removing the {{orphan}} tag was OK. Happy editing! Bug

I got a bug that need to be fixed. Jim Carter 11:53, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Cartar where is the bug? If you mean the unref -> refimprove, the first tag was incorrect already since it should ot be used in sections. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:00, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
uref -> Refimprove was correct but {{Refimprove}} should be moved at the top. What you think? There are some people who don't understand the difference" between "Unreferenced" and "unreferenced section" so for them we have to fix this bug. Jim Carter 12:07, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Jim Cartar it likely that the initial editor meant to add "unref section". We have to find someone to check these cases. If we fix all of these then AWB would be able to run with no problems. We have many unref tags misplaced, wrongly used or with invalid parameters. This is what GoingBatty worries about. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:22, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
{{unref}} may be used in sections, provided that the first positional parameter |section is given, i.e. {{unref|section|date=October 2014}}. This is synonymous with {{unref section|date=October 2014}}. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:46, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Redrose64 exactly. In that case AWB works fine. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:48, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Problem in given pages resolved but we need a further check. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:48, 13 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
