Kickboxer is an upcoming American martial arts film directed by John Stockwell, and starring Alain Moussi, Jean-Claude Van Damme (who played Kurt Sloane in the original Kickboxer) and Dave Bautista. It is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name and the sixth installment of the Kickboxer series, serving as a reboot.
Synopsis
The film follows Eric and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a California dynasty of champions. After Eric wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong despite his brother’s protests. When Eric dies, Kurt turns to his former mentor Master Durand[1] to seek revenge on the vicious Tong Po.[2]

Production
Kings Road Entertainment announced in 2012 that they planned a 3-D remake of the film.[6] Legal battles within the company, however, resulted in this version, along with several other planned remakes from the company, not being made.[7]
Radar Pictures is developing a reboot of the film with Jim McGrath and Dimitri Logothetis writing, Logothetis is also produced along with Ted Field and Nick Celozzi, Mike Weber and Peter Meyer executive producing and Stephen Fung directing with the film start filming in early 2014.[8] On May 12, 2014, Deadline that has The Exchange boarded sales on Radar for with Brian O’Shea, Jeff Bowler and Nat McCormick executive produce the film and announced stunt man Alain Moussi will star in his first lead role with Georges St-Pierre and Dave Bautista. [2][9] J.J. Perry will be the action director and Larnell Stovall will be the fight choreographer.[10] In November 2014, it was announced that Tony Jaa and director Fung had left the project. John Stockwell has stepped in as the film's director.[11][12] In December 2014, actors T. J. Storm, Matthew Ziff and original film star Jean-Claude Van Damme were cast in the film.[13][14] On December 4, Sara Malakul Lane joined the film to play the love interest of lead actor who's a detective investigating his brother’s death.[5] ON December 6, 2014, Darren Shahlavi was cast as Eric Sloan, a role was origially meant for Scott Adkins.[4] On December 8, Gina Carano joined the film's cast to play a fight promoter.[3]
Filming
Filming began on November 24, 2014[15] in New Orleans and Thailand.[16][17]
