Pablo Iglesias Turrión positions himself on the left-wing and was a youth member of the Communist Party of Spain and Anti globalisation movement.[8][9] He also admired the policies of Hugo Chávez and was part of a board with other Podemos members that allegedly received $4.6 million from Chávez's government for 10 years until 2012.[10]

On January 2014 he presented, along with other persons and groups, the Podemos movement,[11] looking to participate in the 2014 European elections. He was elected to the head of Podemos' party list in open primary elections.[12] He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament.

He was sworn in as a MEP:
