Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by VgrigorovDOTcom (talk | contribs) at 16:14, 19 February 2015. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Pianist_ru → Pianist

Robot clerk note: I have detected the following problems:
  • The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to.
  • There is no global account registered for Pianist, however there are 20 unattached accounts on other wikis. --Legobot (talk) 20:30, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Unfortunately this login is used, see Special:CentralAuth/Pianist. There's a user on ru.wikipedia.org with this name, has over 9,000 edits, and has two user rights. The SUL would probably belong to them. Sorry, you'll have to pick a new name. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:35, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know that account on en.wikipedia is already registered, but the user has 0 edits, that means that account is unused. The user on ru.wikipedia is me. So I want to merge my accounts. --Pianist 16:14, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Pianist ru: Please create a global account for User:Pianist first by submitting its password on ru:Special:MergeAccount. Afterwards, the clashing accounts will be automatically usurped during SUL finalization till April 2015 by the Wikimedia Foundation. Once all your accounts are completed global ones, stewards will be able to merge both your accounts to Pianist for example. Before, we will neither split up global accounts or mix local accounts which do not have global accounts yet. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:22, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

peanux → Myhanh

Robot clerk note: I have detected the following problems:
  • The requested username is already registered; see Special:Listusers. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to.
  • There is no global account registered for Myhanh, however there are 2 unattached accounts on other wikis. --Legobot (talk) 15:30, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: There are multiple issues with this request:
  • There is a user with the name "Myhanh" that has 4,025 edits on vi.wikipedia.org. The SUL would probably belong to them.
  • The requesting user "peanux" does not have a global account. Please create a global account by going to Special:MergeAccount.
--I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 17:41, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a request for username usurpation at vi:Wikipedia:Đổi_tên_người_dùng/Cưỡng_đoạt.After that I will create global account for Myhanh then request rename peanux to Myhanh. Thanks Peanux (talk) 14:10, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @DerHexer: would it make sense to locally rename "en:wiki:Myhanh" to "Myhanh (usurped)" and then detach en:user:Peanux and rename to Myhanh so this user can unify the account under the new name? –xenotalk 21:12, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Xeno and Peanux: I did the first step but hesitate to detach local accounts from global accounts. Steward will soon be able to merge global accounts without having to rely on the account owner to merge them manually which otherwise would result in more clashing accounts. But if Peanux/Myhanh promises to merge their global Myhanh account with the current enwiki Peanux account, I will make an exemption as this affects only one single local account although that leaves the current commonswiki Peanux account un-SUL'ed. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 10:57, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please rename "en:wiki:Peanux" to "en:wiki:Myhanh". I want to quit "en:wiki:Peanux" then use "en:wiki:Myhanh" only. Thanks! Myhanh (talk) 05:36, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I want to confirm about above request of "en"wiki:Myhanh". Thanks Peanux (talk) 05:44, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Recently blocked on Commons for multiple account abuse. Since a global rename effects Commons as well, I have requested feedback from the Commons admin before proceding. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 10:18, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - made a second request after which they were renamed by DerHexer, and were consequently blocked indefinitely by Salvidrim! for multiple account abuse. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 05:46, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
