This is the user talk page for me, K6ka, where you can leave messages for me.

Please remember the rules around civility and the guidelines around assuming good faith. To summarize:
- Civility is when you are respectful and considerate of other editors, even if you don't agree with them.
- Assuming good faith is when you assume that the people you are working with want to help Wikipedia, rather than hurt it.

Not following these two guidelines can lead to problems that quickly become difficult to solve. It also makes editing Wikipedia a lot less enjoyable than it should be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of frequently asked questions I get, and their answers.

Q: I am not logged in to Wikipedia, and I got a message from you saying that I vandalized an article that I didn't edit. What's going on?
A: No need to panic! Wikipedia uses your IP address to identify you when you are not logged in. IP addresses may be shared between multiple users, or be reassigned to different users periodically. For example, if you are at school or a coffee shop, the IP address you are using is shared by everyone using the Internet there.
The message you received was intended for someone who had previously used the IP address you are currently using. If you did not vandalize Wikipedia, you can safely ignore the message. If you get these kinds of messages frequently, you may want to consider creating an account and logging in to it. That way, any messages you get will actually be intended for you, rather than someone else who used your IP address.
Q: I am not logged into Wikipedia, and I can't edit because you have blocked me. What do I do?
A: See the above: you are probably on a shared IP address, and someone before you was editing Wikipedia inappropriately. Shared IP addresses are usually blocked from editing for long periods of time to prevent abuse. The good news is that you can usually still edit if you log in. If you don't have an account, and cannot create one because of the block, you can request an account.
Q: You reverted one of my edits. Why is that?
A: Unless I'm reverting vandalism, I usually provide an explanation for my reverts, either in my edit summary, or in a message on your user talk page. There are many reasons for reverting an edit, and each case has its own reason. If you're still not sure why I reverted your edit, you can ask me on this talk page.
Q: Are there alternate ways of contacting you?
A: For wiki-related inquiries, you can also reach me at the following venues:
- Discord – I can be found on the unofficial Wikipedia Discord server under the username k6ka. Please do not send me a friend request; just mention my username in any public channel and I'll respond when I get a chance to.
- Email – You must be logged in and have an email address registered with your account to use this feature.

@Pinkbeast: No, it's nothing really special. Occasionally vandal fighters may revert a user and unknowingly revert the article to a revision made by another vandal. It's happened to me many times before, and I wound up in your situation several times as well, when I saw things the initial reverter didn't see (This is often due to a limitation of the tools used, since I was using STiki to make that edit, or because the user was on patrol and had many edits to check, and thus may not have had the time to individually examine carefully each edit). At times it may be the other way around. Recent Edit

I deleted that section because I'm clear why the "history" of the illegal drug trade, broadly, is so focused on the Opium Wars. That seems very specific and not relevant to the nature of the post. Am I wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.90.96.47 (talk) 03:13, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody said you were wrong but, looking at some of the sources in the line you removed, it has a connection with the Opium Wars, which you said was made too specific in an article that should've had a broader viewpoint. New to Wiki

Hi K6ka

I am new to Wiki and am not totally sure what I did wrong - you sent me (quite a rude) message about being blocked if I defame someone with poor references - all I am doing is adding the changes Al Pillay herself has asked me to do as she doesn't use computers. I cant see in any of the information what it is that's wrong - please advise and I apologise I got it wrong. Also I have only added once to the site - when I changed the photo it says it cant as the file has been deleted. Thanks for your help. @Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum: Perhaps I can clarify. Your edit to Al Pillay was reverted again because it added information that was not properly sourced. On Wikipedia, we require that everything added to our website be properly sourced and supported with a citation. We get especially strict on this policy when it comes to articles about living people, in which it is policy to immediately remove anything that isn't sourced on such an article. The message you got was a pre-written one, and I issued it because Melcous had also issued you another message two hours earlier, again notifying you of our verifiability policy. Ten minutes later, you reverted Melcous's edit without any explanation, and reinserted the aforementioned unsourced content, so I came and re-reverted your edit, under the policy regarding the biographies of living persons. --I am k6ka ^{Talk to me!} _{See what I have done} 13:55, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Response re Al Pillay

Thanks for this. It all sounds very formal (which I understand). I don't know who this Malcous person is. I have only received a message from you. All I could see is a bit that said revert so i pressed it - it didn't explain anything. Again I apologise - I am new to Wiki and it will take me some time to figure out how you deal with edits. I will ensure I put a source on everything but I can assure you nothing was controversial - it just said where she has performed. I really need some advice on the picture - she wants it changed and it got reverted (my new word of the day) - there is no explanation about this on the bit that says it. Now I am terrified I will get blocked for trying to upload it again. Please advise. Thanks. @Nigel from Camden LGBT Forum: What picture are you referring to? Are you referring to this picture? If so, it got deleted because images on Wikimedia Commons must be either in the public domain or free to use -- copyrighted images are not allowed there. Files must also have sufficient evidence to prove that it is public domain or free to use.

Also, as an important side note, please sign your posts on a discussion page (such as this one) by adding four tildes (~~~~) to the end of your comments. For example:

Foo bar. ~~~~

You can now use redirects to link to JavaScript pages. [7]
You cannot use the compact user bar any more. [8]
You can change your options to see bigger images. [9]
You can watch short videos about how to use VisualEditor. [10]
You can now edit pages linked in "what links here" more easily. [11]

Problems

There was a problem with some Lua modules on July 22 and 23. Some pages using them did not list them in "what links here". You can fix those pages with a null edit: edit and save the page without making any change.
There was a problem with the abuse filter page on big wikis on July 23. It was due to a code error. [12]

Changing my username

I wan't to change the username, I've crated this and I thought I was doing an article, later one The article tool place, and this name keeps appear in Google search, That's why I put it in a different spelling, Can I choose a 100 percent different name ?
