ABNA or (AhlulBayt News Agency) was established in March 15th, 2005 as a Shiite news website by authorities of the Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly in Qom, Iran.

History

ABNA was launched in 2005 in the form of a primary Shia news outlet to deal with biased mass media coverage, often lack of coverage, of Shiite communities. The importance of this issue made the current Secretary General of the Ahl Al-Bayt World Assembly Hujjatol-Islam Mohammad Hasan Akhtari to recognize the need for a specialized news website dedicated only to the developments of the Shiite communities around the world.

To raise the awareness of Shiites and other global communities, it was decided to make an online platform to spread the news of Shiites, long subjected to ignorance and oppression, around the world that were mostly under-reported. Therefore, the first ABNA appeared in 2005 in three languages by the grace of Almighty Allah and blessings of holy Ahlolbayt (as).

In the summer of 2006, with a look at the past and seeking for a brighter future, ABNA received a new management team to introduce it in a new interface which was more fitting and easy-to-use. AT this point, more domains were also assigned for the site.

In August 2007 a new phase of development was kicked off due to the amount of attention the website gained, making it one of the most well known Shiite news websites on the net. At this stage, ABNA changed both its domain and its title to AhlolBayt News Agency and Abna24.com, managing to access a wider range of visitors from some Arab and western countries that had restrictions with ir domain. Subsequently, ABNA became an official news agency working in 20 languages.

Languages

ABNA is already available in 20 languages including: العربیة ,فارسی ,اردو Türkçe, English, Español, Français, 汉语, Russian, Deutsch, বাংলা, Azeri, Latin, Cyrillic, Indonesian, Hindi, Swahili, Melayu, Bosanski, Myanmar, Hausa,
