03:37:10, 10 January 2016 review of submission by A N Geetha

hello last night i spent lot of time and created a wikipedia for Mr. T N suresh kumar, morning i saw declined.totally disappointed.kindly help me to create the same i have done in sandbox help me to create the wikipedia for Mr. T N suresh kumar

@A N Geetha: Ok, good for you. Unfortunately, the article you wrote was not encyclopedic or neutral, and the structure and formatting was all over the place, and you had no references, which is a big no when you are talking about living people. As the first Indian to have gone into the stratosphere (or "the edge of space"), he is definitely notable and so I took the time this morning to copy-edit your article for you and add references (because I'm kind like that). All you have to do now is resubmit it but where did you get your images from? I refuse to believe that you are Sureshkumar's personal photographer, and I am near certain that some of these images are copyright violations (translations of this page are available in difference languages if you look on the left under "languages"). Please before resubmitting tell me where you got those images from. You cannot copy and paste images onto Wikipedia. If you know Mr Sureshkumar personally and he has given you permission, you need to email OTRS (again translations of this page are available) basically saying "Mr Sureshkumar has given me permission to upload these images under CC-BY-SA-4" or whatever license you used. jcc (tea and biscuits) 10:04, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lonnie B. White

Hello and thank you for such a speedy response ! I have resubmitted the page this morning to include in-text citations for all of the references listed. I originally anticipated extra days to submit them due to the number of articles currently waiting for review. I have included original posts and citations from newspaper articles, along with a list of announcements from news posts that reported the author's (my husband's) passing without mentioning his background or any of his accomplishments. Although he died in a town that was not his birthplace, I feel strongly that he is a notable person worthy of coverage. The newspaper sources that documented his life as a quarterback were published by the Asbury Park Press from 1981-1982 prior to joining the Los Angeles Times as a reporter. Notable stories that he has covered during his 21 years as a reporter are not covered in the biography. Please review the article as I welcome any comments or suggestions for improvement. Also, his heritage dates back to the 1400's and includes France, the West Indies and the United States. I feel this area would require a substantial amount of additional research to confirm the reports or substantiate pedagogical relationships. - K. White

@Friends of Luck 82: Ok, no problem! Unfortunately, you added your references incorrectly: it should basically go: "<ref>REFERENCE</ref>", whereas you forgot the / on the </ref> after your reference. This is why I feel that you should enable Visual Editor which does this all automatically: click here: Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing and uncheck Temporarily disable the visual editor while it is in beta, and save your preferences and where "edit source" was before, a new "edit" button will pop up. Trust me, it will make your life so much easier! I have fixed your references for you; but I do feel that your submission may be declined as a) it's really long- condense it down a bit as it does read like an autobiography and b) you need to split it into sections (example as follows):

==Section Title==
text text text
==New Section Title==
etc. etc. etc.

Good luck, and again, I cannot stress how much easier Visual Editor makes it! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:01, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

19:50:44, 12 January 2016 review of submission by Wrightachris1

Hi, is there an outline model I could follow to improve the submission?

@Wrightachris1: Yes, just look at any Wikipedia article and learn how to format the articles, or better still, enable and use Visual Editor. For examples of articles to base it around, there's a great category of articles here: Category:United States Navy officers and particularly perhaps best for your article, here: Category:United States Navy chaplains. Base your article around them, but really, the main issue with your article was it needs to be split into sections and you need to demonstrate your subject's notability. Good luck, and do ask again if you need any more advice. jcc (tea and biscuits) 21:42, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article about an Indian writer from early 1900s. As he lived and worked in a period prior to the internet there are no many internet references available. Though there are references in newspaper archives, they are only available based on log in or becomes obsolete after a period of time. Please suggest a solution.

@Durgakirankumar: Ok, cool, just resubmit it. jcc (tea and biscuits) 20:38, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Draft of Carlos Collazo

Hi Jcc,

I hope all is well with you. I resubmitted my work on the Collazo Draft:Carlos Collazo article for review. I believe that I was able to provide substantive references where possible and I omitted areas that I am still researching but can add later. If you have time, can you please review the latest draft and advise accordingly. I would like to get it published and then continue adding and improving. Many thanks for your great help and advice.TimeMist (talk) 18:37, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm great, thanks, how are you doing? I've accepted the article, even though I'm sure that there some conflict of interest or some other rule, but AfC's under backlog again. I however do think that all the external links look really spammy; definitely replace them with references or just get rid of them (e.g. in the sections "Additional Technology Companies" and "MARSYS and the MARSYS GROUP"). Also, I think last time I advised you to get Mr Collazo to email OTRS; I can see that your original image was deleted as you didn't, so well done for replacing it, although I have edited your image as OTRS requests need an additional template (and did the email state the license "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0" (CC-BY-SA-4) explicitly?). In your section beginning "Collazo's patented technologies...", get rid of the long list of companies there, replace it with: "Collazo's patented technologies have been referred, cited and applied in over 55 patents by many of the world's leading technology companies including industry leaders such as Hewlett-Packard and Intel." I hope that this helps. jcc (tea and biscuits) 20:30, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jcc, I am hanging in there, doing some traveling this week. I hope you weren't caught in that blizzard in NE USA! I greatly appreciate you accepting my first article! Thank you for your help. I am learning and applying to become better. I will work some more on this article to improve it as you have suggested. Regarding the OTRS, I did not send them an email, but Mr. Collazo did. The email did not explicitly state "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0" (CC-BY-SA-4)". Do I need to have it resent? Please let me know if I can help you (don't know in what). I am very excited aboy having my first article and it is thanks to your help!TimeMist (talk) 23:47, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TimeMist, somewhat fortunately I actually live in England, where it just tends to rain. You will need to ask Mr Collazo to resend that email as you put a CC-BY-SA-4 license when you uploaded the picture. Well done for the hard work you put in! jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:13, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Hendy, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page London Transport (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi JCC,

I'm not sure at this point why this article is not approved. We have provided many authentic and independent references. Also the same information on the article is already approved many times on Wikipedia with less independent references. Could you please review it again for us. Thanks.

@Haiticinema2016: It's hard to tell which references are relevant- you should footnote them in the article, see WP:Referencing for beginners. At the moment it seems like you are just pasting links to any websites that vaguely mention your association- delete the ones that aren't relevant and only have a passing mention to the association. jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:12, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Haiticinema2016 (talk) 18:27, 25 February 2016 (UTC) @Haiticinema2016: Sorry, just realised I meant in line citations not footnotes. They look like this: [1]. You can add them easily using WP:Visual Editor. jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:40, 25 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Adding Ping and user templates

Hoy, I saw you added a ping to Mike and Nyttend to my message. I don't mind much, although I doubt Mike will suddenly change his mind when I tell him the same thing for the 5th time. But those pings won't work , so I've removed them. If the other admins think others have been notified, they will be even less inclined to do something. Mike is convinced his block is right, and I don't want to ask Nyttend to revert another decision by Mike. I'll ping the other checkusers next time. the pings won't work because:

no signature was added in that edit.
they were aded to existoing lines instead of new lines.
there are a few other conditions for pings to work, see: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Echo#Technical_details Prevalence 00:34, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 22:20:20, 3 March 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Wrightachris1

Hello, I am asking for an updated review of the revised article, with detailed feedback as to why it may be rejected, along with details related to corrective actions to be taken. I would like to see Wiki introduce some outline formats where the submitter is required to fill in the blanks. It has been very frustrating at first, trying to figure out what to do to address general comments rather than specifics required to fix the submission. However, that said, I am now at this point, where I think that the submission is well documented and formatted(without an outline). Please feed back to me as I have two additional biographies to submit once I finally get this one right. I also have several personal and several Wikisource photos. How do I go about uploading them, assuming we get approval on a biographical sketch?

I thank all of you for your work.

Wrightachris1 (talk) 22:20, 3 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I do agree with you, AfC can be a particularly daunting place, where general comments are just handed out without any specifics. I think that MatthewVanitas has helped a bit with your first line; write a quick one-sentence explanation of what he's famous for. See WP:Lead section for ideas. With regards to the rest of your article, the external links inside the text would be better formatted as references, see WP:REFSTART or I would encourage you to enable and use Visual Editor which is basically like Microsoft Word and makes adding in line citations a lot easier. If I may, I will give an example of what I meant by a section which should be copyedited:

Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Lieutenant, in 1893. Aboard the training ship U.S.S. Portsmouth from November 14th, 1893, to January 2nd, 1895. Aboard the U.S.S. Minneapolis from January 3rd to November 30th, 1896. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Franklin from May 15th, 1897, to March 18th, 1900. Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Lieutenant Commander, in 1898. Promoted to Chaplain, rank of Commander, on March 3rd, 1899. Aboard the U.S.S. New York from March 21st to November 2nd, 1900. Aboard the U.S.S. Massachusetts from November 2nd, 1900, to May 13th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Wabash from June 1st to July 6th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Puritan from July 9th to November 16th, 1903. Aboard the receiving ship U.S.S. Lancaster from November 16th, 1903, to March 31st, 1907. Ordered to Washington to participate in the “Alger Board” with purpose to urge the increase in the number of Chaplains, and increase their pay to rank. Testified at the 2nd

This is not really prose, and should be rewritten e.g. In 1893, Wright was promoted to Chaplain, equivalent to (?) the rank of Lieutenant. I'm not really sure what to do with all your "abroad the ship XYZ from A to B", as I think they could be summarised e.g. "between ABC to DEF, he joined the ships X, Y and Z, becoming commander in Z." The real problem I have however, is demonstrating that Wright is notable. I urge you to read Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Notability guide- this is the criteria in which I am evaluating Wright against, and at the moment, I'm struggling to see how he passes this.

08:22:58, 12 March 2016 review of submission by Sayedminhal

Now, I am thinking that Wikipedia "reviewers" are not reading the articles which they are reviewing.

Here is the answer to your points:

Notability: Kaleem Haider Sharar is "Notable" for being a Popular Urdu Language Poet, Author and Writer lived in Mumbai area of Maharashtra Province in India.

Verification:

2 book reference already given inline in article and other news paper article references

I have provided reference to 2 books along with news papers references (with publication details and dates as well as links to public library) as reliable sources, which is valid reliable source as per Wikipedia Verifiablity Guidelines and also significant coverage about Kaleem Haider Sharar.

Recently, another book named "Pursa" [ISBN:9789383239313] on popular Urdu Poets of Mumbai is also premiered last week, which also has an article on "Kaleem Haider Sharar". Now you tell me what else can be provided.

Hi Jcc. I wrote most of this entry a while ago. There were interesting developments in this story, and I was planning an update. In the process, I noticed that a couple of pics were removed. No copyright violations (evidence filed in court and widely published). Any idea what the reason was? Joseph Zernik (not working from my computer, and can't log in)
