Al-Talaba announced on 13 June their first signings which included six players: Muhannad Arzeej, Burhan Juma'a, Ahmed Abdul-Abbas, Sattar Yasin, Samer Majid and Ahmed Khalid.[4] They signed nine other players including two of the biggest names in Iraqi football, Ameer Sabah and Mustafa Karim, on 20 June, returning to their home club.[5][6] The board also renewed the contracts of 12 players including last season top goalscorer, Abdul-Qadir Tariq, and last season's both second and third captains, Mahdi Karim and Mohammed Abdul-Zahra, and the team's key player, Samer Saeed.[7]
