Doctor Savithri

Please feel free to suggest an ALT hook.— Maile (talk) 19:52, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Complete review still needed. — Maile (talk) 19:52, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Long enough (1828 characters), new enough (created on September 11, 2016). The major issues are: completely uninteresting hook which I have struck, the entire plot section is copied from The Hindu review, this section needs to be rewritten. Also the soundtrack section links to copyright violating YouTube videos. The image is not valid for use in DYK as it wouldn't be fair use. I won't finish the review until these major issues are sorted. Cowlibob (talk) 09:40, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

I have re-written the plot section. I have removed all links to YouTube. I have removed the image. Uksharma3 (talk) 10:32, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
How about this hook? ...that the 1955 Tamil language film Doctor Savithri is a contemporary adaptation of the Hindu epic Savitri and Satyavan? Uksharma3 sir, is this new hook good and accurate? Kailash29792 (talk) 10:45, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Uksharma3 sir, I think you misunderstood what Cowlibob said. He said that the image cannot be used for DYK only (due to copyright issues), but it can still stay in the article. And Cowlibob, the image was released more than 60 years ago. So I think it should satisfy PD-India. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:56, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Kailash29792. Anyway I do not want to run into conflicts. There is no harm without images. The text/data is important.Uksharma3 (talk) 11:12, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
India only has a 60 year limit? That's great, so image should be ok. I have copyedited some of the article. Have you seen the film or have a copy of the film? The plot could be expanded further if so. I have cut it down to the relevant details from The Hindu review but if there's more than that please add. Kailash29792, any chance you could find more information of this film and expand this article a bit especially production, as my edits have cut it down below 1500 characters needed for DYK? What makes "Lakshman Sruthi.com" a reliable source for Tamil cinema? The soundtrack is currently unsourced I think. Cowlibob (talk) 10:25, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Did you read the PD-India page, and see if the film is truly out of copyright? I have not seen the film, and Lakshmansruthi seems to be the only source giving it's release date. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:40, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
The Hindu review says it's from 1955, page 129 from Encylopaedia of Indian Cinema also says 1955. So presumably if it released before 1 January 1956, it's public domain but am happy to be corrected. Cowlibob (talk) 10:59, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
Film News Anandan is a recognized historian of Tamil Films. He has published his research work as a printed book History of Tamil Cinema with help from the Tamil Nadu State Government. The book is available for sale in leading book shops. Lakshmansruthi.com has only reproduced on the web the contents of his book. I usually cite the Lakshmansruthi page for easy reference than the printed book. Lakshmansruthi.com have stated that they got due permission from the publisher for the web publication. The book is an authentic source as the Tamil Nadu government has approved it. This book and film review articles on "the Hindu" newspaper are the two reliable sources about Tamil Cinema. Kailash29792 If Thalapathi is based on the Mahabharata, why should not Doctor Savithri be based on Savitri and Satyavan?
PhysicsScientist, you got it all wrong. I am saying the article should appear on the DYK section of the main page, with the statement that it is based on the Hindu epic. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:44, 11 October 2016 (UTC)
Cowlibob, this DYK has been open for a long time, I think the hook I suggested may be finalised. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:44, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

To make clear, this is the hook I looked at suggested by Kailash above:

I just realised that "Savitri and Satyavan" should not be in italics because, according to page 3879 of this book, the tale of Savitri and Satyavan is an "inset in the 'Vana Parva' of the Mahabharata". The book doesn't show "Savitri and Satyavan" in italics either. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:26, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
Deitalicised above. Cowlibob (talk) 12:29, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
