Balete Drive

Balete drive is located in New Manila, Quezon City, Philippines. The street is known for white lady apparitions and haunted houses built during the Spanish Era (1800s). New Manila is populated with Balete Trees, according from folklores this tree is the favorite spot of wandering spirits and other paranormal entities. Paranormal experts concluded that the white lady was raped by Japanese soldiers during World War 2 which is parallel to the movie. The witnesses of the white lady, advised motorists to avoid the street at night especially when alone. If they insist, the backseat of the car must be full and no one should look back or look to any mirror. The white lady wears a night gown, has a long hair but has no face or drenched with blood. These occurences can be seen in the movie.

Location

The intersection of Balete Drive is between Aurora Blvd that is a few blocks away from Gilmore Avenue (the local "Akihabara" of computers) and St. Paul College of Quezon City. The east side exits near St. Luke's Medical Hospital and the [[west] side exits near GMA-7 and Tomas Morato Avenue, one of the night-life places in the city. On the other hand, the center intersection of Aurora Blvd is EDSA-Cubao, the shopping center of the Filipinos in the 1970s.

Movie

Hiwaga sa Balete Drive (Mystery in Balete Drive) is a Filipino movie that was filmed in the 1988. The white lady was played by ZsaZsa Padilla. In the story, she died in the Spanish Era and her soul keeps on searching for her undying love. Some of the scenes was actually filmed on the said street. The movie can be seen during halloween specials on ABS-CBN, Cinema One and TFC classic movie programs.
