"So Excited" is a dance-pop/hip-hop song released as the second single from Janet Jackson's ninth studio album, 20 Y.O.. The song features rapper Khia, and was released to radio on August 28, 2006. [1] The song is a dance track which samples Herbie Hancock's "Rockit". [2] The song premiered on August 19 2006 during Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Radio on Atlanta radio station WVEE-FM. [3] The song was released for download as a single and free with 20 Y.O. pre-orders on iTunes on August 29 2006. It debuted on BET's 106 & Park on Tuesday, September 26, 2006.

The music video for the single was filmed in Los Angeles on August 23 2006 and was wrapped the next day. [4] Joseph Kahn directed the video. [5] The video premiered on September 13 2006, on BET's Access Granted. [6]

Janet and her crew, dance in a train station. The costumes the dancers sport, could be described as gothic. Throughout the dance routine, Janet and her female dancers morph, dancing clothed and naked, covering their breasts. The camera often acts as an x-ray, seeing through doorways and bodies, also revealing that the room Janet is in is actually beside the one JD is in. Janet is seen in a hotel room blindfolding a guy, making out in a public restroom, and being fed strawberries in a car. Khia is seen rapping on a hotel television. Jermaine Dupri is featured shaving in a bathroom while rapping, with a mysterious woman showering in the background.

Chart performance

"So Excited" debuted on the Billboard Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 75 in September, 2006. The song is currently number 55.

Trivia

• In the music video, Khia's guest appearance was limited to just a spoken part in the chorus. Whereas in the album version, she has more of an appearance on the song. However, during the Access Granted show, her rap verse was shown being filmed.
• Video director Joseph Kahn stated during Access Granted that this is the first video he ever filmed using digital video cameras only.
• Some radio stations edit out the lines "have you inside of me," and "keep your body thumpin'".
