This is a very important article

This was the Lodge that started Prince Hall Masonry. Let's see if we can fix it by rewriting, instead of deletion. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:13, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree that this is a very important article. However the article needs to be accurate as I visited No 459 recently in London. The 459 number of Africa Lodge refers to the number given to it when constituted in 1784. This number relates to the numeration carried out in 1781. Indeed over the years lodges on the Roll of the Moderns Grand Lodge of England from 1717 to 1813 renumbered its lodges in the following years: 1729, 1740, 1755, 1770, 1780, 1781 and 1792 this was done to fill up gaps left following the removal of any erased lodges from the roll. The Antients or the Athol Grand Lodge from 1752-1813 did not renumber any of their lodges but interestingly re-issued old numbers to new lodges. With the amalgamation of Union of both lodges in 1813 forming the United Grand Lodge of England there need for a new list to be created, the merger and renumbering was then published in 1814. The UGLE again renumbered in 1832 and later on in 1863. Lodges that were created after 1863 are allocated a number from the 1863 re-numbering. 459 was renumbered in 1792 to 370. Interestingly the lodge was erased in 1813 for non payment. I would add that these details have been abstracted from Lanes Masonic records which are accessible online. https://www.dhi.ac.uk/lane/record.php?ID=1301 It is worth mentioning this within the text as I have already received a facebook message mentioning this particular lodge which sadly is no longer extant but warrant itself still exists.

Contested deletion

This page should not be speedy deleted as an unambiguous copyright infringement, because the topic is extremely notable. In creating the article I did base much of the text on one source, but I attempted to rewrite it to avoid copyright violation. It may be that I did not rewrite well enough... but that can be fixed by additional revising, not by deletion. The point is... the first African American Masonic Lodge, from which an entire branch of Freemasonry descends, deserves an article. Blueboar (talk) 15:19, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
