Childhood and Family
She was born in Kalmar, the daughter of businessman John Roosval and Johanna Kramer, who was part of a creative family. Roosval's maternal uncles were the art historian Johnny Roosval and filmmaker Albin Roosval.
In 1891 she married fellow painter Gottfrid Kallstenius and together they had a son, artist Evald Kallstenius.
She died on 21 August 1939 in Västervik.
Professional Life
Roosval-Kallstenius studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm, and trained in France and Italy for three years.[1]
She painted scenes from nature and portraits throughout her career. Her work is held by the major museums of Sweden, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts in Stockholm, Malmö Museum, Kalmar Art Museum, and Linköping Art Museum.
Like her close contemporary, Fanny Brate, Roosval-Kallstenius' paintings are a record of Swedish life in the nineteenth and twentieth century.
