Rad Hourani is a Canadian artist, designer, and film director known for his neutral, genderless creations.[1][2]. He created the first UNISEX gender neutral ready to wear collection in fashion history in 2007.
Two years later, he presented his first photo and video exhibition at the Jardins du Palais-Royal in Paris to great acclaim and continues exhibiting his photographic work around the world, in particular a film projection at Centre Pompidou in Paris, an interactive installation at the Tate Modern in London, as well as different installations at the FIT Museum in New York, MU Art Center in the Netherlands and the Herning Museum of Contemporary Art in Denmark. His most recent multidisciplinary exhibitions were presented at Arsenal Contemporary Art Center in Montreal, the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York and a film installation at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
In January 2013, Rad Hourani became an invited member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris, marking him both the first Canadian to show during Couture Week, and the first designer to show a unisex collection at this event.[3][4]
His work is an attentive study of the human body that celebrates neutrality as a defining human trait. The Rad Hourani neutral process advocates non-conformity as the essence of individualism. He sees modernity as an odyssey free of limit, gender, age, religion, boundaries, and conditioning. In his own vision, he is sketching a new, freer way to live.
Personal Life
Born in 1982 in Jordan from a Jordanian-Canadian father and a Syrian mother, he moved to Montreal, Quebec at the age of 16 to complete high school. After his graduation, he began working as an art director. At the age of 23, he moved to Paris, where he started photography and shooting videos. He then created his Unisex brand Rad Hourani at just 25.
