Sybreed (short for "synthetic breed") were a heavy metal band from Geneva, Switzerland.

Band History

The band was founded by Thomas "Drop" Betrisey (guitar) and Benjamin Nominet (vocals). The two wanted a band that unified their common predilection for metal and electronic music. On their first album Slave Design from 2004, Alex Anxonnia (drums) and Luis "Burn" Da Silva Cruz (bass) also played. Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork, Scarve, Aborted) appeared as a session musician on their second album Antares, which was released under Listenable Records.

Dirk Verbeuren was replaced on the latest album The Pulse of Awakening (2009) by Kevin Choiral, who is now a regular band member. Stéphane Grand also joined around this time on bass. Rhys Fulber, mainly known for his work for Fear Factory (Synthes and Sound-Samples) and Front Line Assembly, provided mixing on the latest album.[1]

On 7 April 2010 the song "Doomsday Party" was released for free download for the console game Rock Band. In June 2011, Stéphane Grand left the band for personal and professional reasons. He was replaced by Ales Campanelli as a permanent member of the band.

In October 2013, the band announced that singer Benjamin Nominet had left the band. All tour dates were cancelled and the band decided to break up.[2]

Musical Style

The sound of Sybreed is notoriously aggressive and melodic at the same time. It is strongly influenced by different subgenres of Metal such as Melodic Death Metal and Black Metal, based on its sound to Industrial Metal, Alternative Metal and Metal Groove combined with many elements of Synthpop and Darkwave. Math metal has a fundamental role in his compositions due to the use of polyrhythmic riffs, unusual rhythms and irregular rhythms.

According to the information of the band in their MySpace, Sybreed defined their music as death wave. The band cited as their biggest influences Fear Factory, Strapping Young Lad, Meshuggah and Depeche Mode.
