Dr. H.B.M Iqbal is a Multi-Dimensional Corporate personality, Bangladesh Awami League politician and the former Member of Parliament from Ramna-Tejgaon, Dhaka

Early life

Dr. H.B.M Iqbal was born on 12 April 1950 in Banshgari, Bhairab Upazila, Kishoreganj District, Bangladesh. He was a freedom fighter with specialized guerrilla training from Deradhun, Lakhnow, India under a guerrilla force ‘MujibBahini/Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF)’, fighting against Pakistan in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Dr. H.B.M Iqbal has completed Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Specializing in Banking & Finance from Commonwealth University, UK. He has also completed Master Class Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from London Graduate School, UK and MBBS from University of Dhaka. [3]

Career

Dr. H.B.M Iqbal is the Chairman of “Premier Group” – a Multi-Dimensional Corporate Body having interests in the field of Banking, Insurance, Leasing, Manufacturing, Cement, Petroleum & Lubricants, Training, Distribution House, Travel & Tourism, Aviation, Medical Centre, Steel & Super Market, HRD, Service Sector and Hotel & Restaurant. Two 5 Star International Hotels namely “Courtyard Marriot Hotel” and “Hilton International” have also been established by him.

He is the founder and Chairman of The Premier Bank Limited, a fully licensed Commercial Bank with 102 Branches employing almost 1600 employees with Tk.155,000 Million in Assets (US$ 1900 Million). [4] [5] [6] He was also the founder Chairman of Peoples Leasing and Financial Services Ltd. [7]

He is the pioneer in establishing the first Private airline company of the country named Aero Bengal Airlines.

He is a former member of parliament and was the Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh. In addition to his success in trade and business, he is immensely reputed for his huge contribution to the field of education. He served as the Chairman of a number of reputed schools, Colleges, and Universities of the Country.
