Scarecrow is a 2013 Syfy Pictures original horror film directed by Sheldon Wilson. Wilson also directed two other Syfy original films: Carny (2009) and Mothman (2010). The film premiered on Syfy October 19, 2013 and the DVD was released on February 25, 2014.[1] It is the 25th film of the Maneater Series.

Plot

Two teens, Kaylen (Brie Larson) and her friend Simba go to a cornfield to scare their enemies Zoey and Seamus for posting playtime pictures of them on the internet. They head to an old barn where they break the floor and crash into an unknown and dark basement. Kaylen injures her thigh and Simba tries to help her. Mysteriously, her blood soaks up below her and a hand comes out and grabs Simba's head. Kaylen screams.

In the next scene, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) takes six teens: Seamus (Matthew Broderick), Zoey (Julianne Moore), Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), Sean (Jeremy Irons), Gauri (Gracy Singh), and Hannah (Emily Kinney) to an abandoned cornfield to take the scarecrow for the 100th Scarecrow festival. Seamus and Zoey tell the rest that the place has a legend resulted from many deaths of people who used to live there. Seamus chants, "It never sleeps, it never dies, it can't be stopped, hear their cries. The Scarecrow lives to kill us all. Keep it buried in the fall..." When they arrive, Harry meets his ex-friend Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) and gets out of the bus to talk to her. As he talks, Zoey takes the keys left in the ignition lock of the bus and takes her radio out that Harry took away earlier.

Meanwhile, Hermione tells Harry that she invited Daryl (Norman Reedus), Harry's former friend who liked Hermione, to help with the scarecrow. Daryl comes along and tries to leave after seeing Harry, but couldn't restart his truck. The teens go to the scarecrow as the teens stay behind, arguing. As Harry, Hermione, and Daryl meet up with the teens, Sean is strapped to the scarecrow as Seamus and Zoey are missing. Harry, Hermione, and Daryl try to take him down, Gauri is grabbed by an unknown force and dragged into the cornfield. Harry tells Hannah, Bhuvan, and Sean to stay where they were as he, Hermione, and Daryl goes to save Gauri.

After they leave, Sean runs off to escape. Hermione finds Gauri, who is still alive, but is dragged herself. After she is helped, everyone (minus Seamus and Zoey) runs to a deserted house next to the field. Something tries to bash through the door and they try to hold it off. Then Zoey's bloody body is thrown over the window, before being dragged back out again.

Reception

Felix Vasquez from Cinema Crazed gave the film a negative review, writing, "Scarecrow definitely has potential to deliver a neat monster, and defies expectations with some surprises. It doesn’t add up to an entertaining or remotely unique horror film, though. In the end, it’s merely just a stock monster on a rampage thriller that’s watchable because of Chabert."[3]
