Blekinge County, Sweden
Map of Blekinge County, Sweden

List of historic Church of Sweden churches in Blekinge County, Sweden

Blekinge is a county in southern Sweden and is the second smallest county (next to Öland). From the 11th c, Blekinge was a part of Denmark and remained so until the end of the Second Northern War Scanian War, CHECK when the Treaty of Roskilde ceded it to Sweden.

The Riksantikvarieämbetet (Swedish National Heritage Board), a part of the Ministry of Culture (Sweden), is the government agency resposible for the overseeing and preservation of cultural heritage and cultural or historical environment. The agency was founded on 20 May, 1630, by King Gustavus Adolphus, making it one of the the oldest of the government agencies. see here and here

One of the projects of the board is the Bebyggelseregistret] (Bebr) (in English, building registry).

See Kyrkobyggnader i Blekinge län (Church buildings in Blekinge County) for a full listing of churches, chapels, ruins, and cemetery plots in Blekinge County.

The church was originally built during the end of the 12th c. or early 13th c. The design of the first church is known from drawings from 1788, now kept in the Swedish National Heritage Board. It was made of gray stone and consisted of a nave and chancel with apse. The cross arm in the north was added in 1697-1709, and the south in 1749-1750. From 1787-1790, the medieval church was demolished and the church received its current plan. The sacristy was built in 1868. [1][2]
