Delhi School of Economics, started in 1949, is a college affiliated to the University of Delhi.
History
The Delhi School of Economics was conceived by a group of visionary educationists like Professor V. K. R. V. Rao and supported by the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who was its first president. It was a project to create a world class center for advanced studies in social sciences.

The departments of the Delhi School of Economics are part of the Faculty of Social Sciences and comprise
Commerce and Management Studies were departments within the Delhi School of Economics till these were separated out as the Faculty of Commerce and Business Studies (in 1992) and the Faculty of Management Studies (in 1972) respectively.
