Kevin Lilliana Junaedy (born January 5, 1996) is a Chinese-Indonesian[2][3] model and beauty queen of full Chinese descent[4][5] who was crowned first runner up in the Puteri Indonesia 2017 competition, and crowned as Miss International 2017 in Japan by predecessor Kylie Verzosa, Miss International 2016, from the Philippines. Liliana thus clinched the first-ever, and so far the only, major crown in the history of Indonesia.[6]
Early life
Lilliana was born in Bandung, West Java. She is the first child of Chinese parents who have migrated to Indonesia in Bandung[7][8]. She is a Muslim and graduated from Maranatha Christian University with a bachelor's degree in interior design and works as a model and interior designer. She has done ramp and print modeling. She has one younger brother named Audi.[9]
Her parents prepared the name "Kevin" because they expected to have a baby boy. However, they kept the name and gave it to her. Her name was inspired by the main character of a 1990 Christmas comedy film, Home Alone which is her parents' favorite film.
Pageantry
Puteri Indonesia 2017
Lilliana won Puteri Indonesia 2017, representing the province of West Java. During finals night, she placed 1st Runner-Up, and won the title of Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2017 (Environment Ambassador) in addition to winning Best Traditional Costume and being 1st Runner-Up for Miss Talent.[10]
Miss International 2017
As Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2017, she represented Indonesia in Miss International 2017, held in Japan, and was crowned at the end of the competition. She also won Miss Best Dresser after presenting an evening gown by Indonesian designer Ivan Gunawan. She is the first Indonesian to be crowned as Miss International.
During the speech portion of the pageant, the women were given a chance to express their plans if crowned Miss International and share their personal advocacies. Lilliana's speech read:[11]
"Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, Indonesia’s national motto that means 'Unity in Diversity'. Indonesia is one of the few countries that has such a diversity of cultures, languages and beliefs. That is why I am a big believer in unity in diversity. This world is a beautiful place because of its wide variety, not similarities, and if I become Miss International I will spread these positive values and spread the culture of accepting and respecting differences, because I know that every country has their own cultures, character and identities. Therefore, let’s create a perfect solution by learning, understand and appreciating each other."
On November 9, 2018, she crowned her successor Mariem Velazco from Venezuela as Miss International 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. She finished her reign at 11 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days.
