Tips for feedback

Tell us what you liked about it, where we could improve, and what you learned

How you can help
  • Play the game all the way through. Do you get stuck anywhere? Is anything unclear?
  • Finish the game if you only played a few missions: Give some attention to missions 5-7 (which have been tested much less)
  • Start over fresh with a new account: Like User:OcaasiTWA17 (these are legitimate alternate testing accounts and are not considered sockpuppets)
  • Try a different browser: If you used Safari, try Firefox (or Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera...)
  • Show the game to a friend or family member to see how they like it and if they get stuck anywhere
In your feedback, please include any of your thoughts on
  • text instructions within the game
  • graphic placement
  • bugs in the tour mechanics
  • your web browser
  • your screen resolution
  • which step of the tour you were on if something didn't work (see the step= in the url)
  • what you liked
  • what you didn't like
  • what you think would work better
  • your thoughts on the design: the theme, the guide, the characters, the colors, the images, the sounds
known bugs
  • Lingering Dialog Boxes: If you leave the tour without finishing, the guider dialog boxes will follow you until you [x] out of them (this is a Guided Tours issue generally and there's no easy fix) Example (phab:T122891)
  • Vector Only: If you're using monobook or modern etc., the layout won't work. Almost all new editors will be using Vector, so this is a known, acceptable trade-off (phab:T122891)
  • Mobile and Tablet Formatting Fails: While tested for most modern desktop and laptop browsers, the game is not configured to work properly on tablets and other smaller devices. It may, but we'd be getting lucky. (phab:T122892)
  • Doesn't scale to my preference of window size or scale symmetrically (ctrl 0/-/+). FF 25. (@start) (T122893)
  • There's no way to jump ahead if you are repeating steps or trying to get back to where you left off mid-mission. (phab:T122895)
  • The guided tour for edit summary dialog sometimes appears in weird places or isn't clickable for the VisualEditor version of the adventure (T368226)
  • "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" overlapping on some background pages Wikipedia:TWA/Background/3 (T365219)

What I liked

I think it's a very decent tutorial for a beginner to get an idea of the basic elements. I personally enjoyed it and found it helpful.

What I didn't like

...

What I wanted more of

I would like a short description or a picture explaining all of the signs in the edit box. Partly they were used in the Adventure, but not all.--Less Unless (talk) 13:10, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What I liked

... I really liked the whole story! It helped me somehow to learn the most basics with the funniest way!

What I didn't like

...

What I wanted more of

... A good improvement is that you could add a story about reverting vandalism, and a few more I can't remember now.

What was unnecessary

...

Any other thoughts you want to share

... Needs a little more development, like a stellar map or relevant things, but it is very good in it's present form! --Enivak (talk) 18:28, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What I liked

...

Took me interactively through the basics
What I didn't like

...

It was great... if I had to be critical, the box "Challenge yourself" not closing was a bit distracting. Also I had to leave the adventure to set my editor to source. I knew how to do this others might not.
What I wanted more of

...

at this stage I think its sufficient
What was unnecessary

...

Any other thoughts you want to share

... Sorry I didn't find this sooner. I lost heart as I was finding the entry to editing foggy. This adventure as just what I needed. --pcmcreative (talk) 19:46, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for a fun tutorial!

Feedback

What I liked

fun! This is an interesting way to introduce the basics of editing.

What I didn't like

Sometimes it was difficult to see what to do because of scrolling around between the message box and the text.

What I wanted more of

What was unnecessary

Any other thoughts you want to share

Would be good to link this directly from the Wiki Edu materials. Also, some of the terminology used in the tutorial doesn't match what's on the screen. "Edit source" -> "Edit" "Publish" -> "Publish changes"

adventure

I do not know how to go back to the adventurs i did not finish. How do i find them? i have completed 10 and just need to do the other 5 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nicoborza99 (talkcontribs) 12:43, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

neither do i. note if you remember which adventures they were, you can go to the adventure page and just play them again, ignoring the parts that you already learned. or get a revision.
tip but please don't leave the 'edit summary' empty in any mission, just to save your time. i know that i made that mistake in mission 6. 0dont()())0abuse0wikiped0ia0 (talk) 07:16, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback for Mission 1-5 using Firefox

What I liked

... that it worked at all, using computers to do anything is hard. and most developers don't provide tutorial for their apps or sites. also, it prepares me for wikipedia. in a way that even desktop apps don't.

What I didn't like

... some text errors at some points, I have them at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:0dont()())0abuse0wikiped0ia0/sandbox

lack of a dark theme. i use a browser extension, but I'd rather not use it on every site.

What I wanted more of

... more speed. it was slow to load sometimes. maybe its something else at play here, excluding context-specific network issues.

more time to test these levels.

What was unnecessary

... nothing. well, to elaborate, I knew how to do some things from using desktop apps and guessed some others, so it wasn't too challenging. but the pop-ups were placed incorrectly.

this is from heuristics based on my second feedback post about mission 6. there might be more issues in level 1-5, if 'edit summary' is empty or not exactly what's expected.

Any other thoughts you want to share

... Keep up the good job, troopers.

Feedback for mission 6 using Firefox

What I liked

... missions before mission 6

What I didn't like

... for now, mission 7's last part

What I wanted more of

... no bugs for simple omissions, that don't stop progress and display a helpful message.

steps to reproduce

multiple steps to keep going around in circles to test a bug in last part of mission 7.

hopefully this is the issue - first I completed the last step but forgot to enter the edit summary. then the page redirects and the pop-up with title 'Edit summary, and Publish' appears, I click the button below it. when I copy then paste either of -

  1. "Added more reliable, neutral info about Earth's history from the talk page"
  2. "Added more reliable, neutral info about Earth's history from the talk page".

and click publish changes, I come back to the same pop-up on the same page.

to break out of loop, I copy then paste -

  • Added more reliable, neutral info about Earth's history from the talk page

and the issue gets solved.

What was unnecessary

... this issue, but that's because its hard to build stuff using programming languages.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What I liked
  • I love this! The Wikipedia Adventure is a fantastic way to introduce new or even existing users to a process (contributing to and communicating within Wikipedia) which can be quite overwhelming at first. This ought to be more prominently featured in the appropriate places so more users see it!
  • I love the different characters you created for this, especially SocraTease!
  • I appreciate the resources and other links that are provided after completing all the missions.
What I didn't like
  • The audio files featured at the end of missions and elsewhere are goofy yet fun. Many of them fit the overall tone of the experience, some of them don't really fit. Additionally, they're a bit all over the place regarding length. To me, it would make more sense if the shorter ones were used for the small milestones and the longer ones reserved for completing missions. That's nitpicky, though. Good choice not making them autoplay. ;)
  • There's a part in mission 6 where Sofy says

That...CLEANUP TAG...doesn't look so good. Let's check out the talk page to see what it means.

Is there supposed to be a CLEANUP TAG on the article? Is it a joke insinuating that Sofy is cursing? What is a CLEANUP TAG anyway? This is confusing to me.
  • Also in mission 6, when Sofy says

You solved the problem, so let's go delete the cleanup tag.
Go ahead and find and delete: {{Unreferenced}} Begone!

There is no "{{Unreferenced}}" in the text of the source editor, unless I totally missed it with Ctrl+F
  • The boxes in which instructions are given do strange things at times. Most notably, while you're in a mission, the boxes appear on wikipedia pages in other tabs.
