Vigyan Ashram (Marathi: विज्ञान आश्रम[1]) is a center of Indian Institute of Education (IIE) Pune established by Dr.S.S. Kalbag in 1983. It's a modern version of old Gurukula systems of 'simple living and high thinking '.Vigyan Ashram is located in village Pabal approx 70 kms from Pune. Its situated on Rajgurunagar - Shirur Road. Population of Pabal is @ 10000. There are several small hamlets attached to Pabal which make Pabal central market place. Pabal is drought-prone and its truly representative Indian village. The idea of establishing Vigyan Ashram at Pabal is whatever we do at Ashram can be replicated in any part of the country.
For us “Vigyan” means ‘Search of Truth’ and “Ashram” symbolizes ‘Simple living and High thinking for us, an organization where all are equal, it’s a modern version of old Gurukul system’
Location
Vigyan Ashram is located in Pabal, 70 km from Pune. The nearest town is Rajgurunagar (Khed) on Pune Nashik highway and Shikrapur on Pune-Ahmednagar road.
Technology Development and Education
DBRT (Diploma in Basic rural technology
DBRT is a one-year residential diploma course offered at Vigyan Ashram. This course is recognized by the National Institute of Open Schooling and useful for students interested to learn by hands. This is a multi-skill program in which training is given in the area of:
- Engineering- (Fabrication & construction& Basic Carpentry, Engineering Drawing & Costing )
- Energy & Environment - (Electrical, Motor rewinding, survey techniques, solar/biogas, etc.)
- Home and Health (Sewing, food processing, and rural lab)
- Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (playhouse, poultry, goat farming, dairy nursery techniques)
Besides this computer, meditation, sports, Adventure, etc. are parts of the program Students works in each of the section for 3 months. They will work along with instructors to give various services. DIC (Design Innovation Centre)
Vigyan Ashram and Savitribai Phule Pune University collaboratively started the ‘Design Innovation Center’ at Pabal. The center is funded by MHRD as part of the National Design Network.
DIC will incubate ideas that are useful for society. Efforts will be made to convert these ideas into products. The requirement of users will be taken into account from the conceptualization of the idea to making final products.
DIC wants to promote the culture of design at the college level. Our rural areas are facing with various development problems. These problems are great opportunities for creative minds. DIC aims at training youth to take on these challenges and come out with useful solutions. DIC is open for all individuals with prior permission and training.
