Virginie Morgon (born 26 November 1969 in Lyon, France) is a French executive and businesswoman. She has been chairwoman and CEO of the French private equity group Eurazeo since March 2018. She formerly spent over 16 years as an investment banker at Lazard and became the youngest managing senior partner in Paris in 2001. In 2008, Virginie Morgon left Lazard and joined Eurazeo as a member of the Executive Board. She later became chairwoman and CEO of Eurazeo, the company.

Early life and education

Virginie Morgon was born on November 26, 1969 in Lyon, France. Both her parents were doctors of Lyonnaise origin. In 1990, she graduated from Sciences Po Paris in Finance and Economics and in 1991, she earned a Master’s degree in Economics and Management from the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.[1]

Career

Lazard (1994-2008)

Virginie Morgon began her career as an intern in Citigroup and she joined investment bank Lazard in 1994. She served as an investment banker in New-York, London and then Paris. Virginie Morgon advised international groups such as Danone, Air Liquide, Publicis, Renault and Kingfisher.[2] In 2001, she became the youngest managing senior partner at Lazard and then, in 2006, she was promoted to Consumer Business Manager for Europe.[3]

Eurazeo (2008-present)

Member of the Executive Board (2008 - 2013)

In 2008, Virginie Morgon joined the private-equity group Eurazeo as a member of the Executive Board. In 2012, she was named Chief Investment Officer. As of 2013, Virginie Morgon became Eurazeo’s Deputy CEO.

Deputy CEO (2013 - 2018)

In early 2014, Virginie Morgon officially took up her post as Deputy CEO, becoming number two in the Eurazeo Group. Henceforth guiding the company’s strategy, she oversaw all the investments and led several major acquisition deals in Accor Group and Moncler.[4]

Her tenure is marked by the internationalization of Eurazeo’s activities, combining international expansion and acquisitions. Virginie Morgon also opened several offices around the world in the United States, China and South America.[5] · [6]

Chairwoman and CEO of Eurazeo (2018 - present)

After the announcement of her appointment as chairwoman and CEO of Eurazeo, Virginie Morgon took on full operational responsibility in March 2018.[7] Upon her arrival as CEO, Eurazeo took over 70% of Idinvest’s capital, an asset manager specializing among other things in private debt. This acquisition doubled the amount of assets under Eurazeo’s management.[8] · [9]

Member of various boards of directors

Virginie Morgon serves on the board of directors of several French and international groups.

In France, from 2009 to 2016, she served on the Board of Directors of Accor Group and from 2014 to 2018, she was an independent member of the Board of Directors of Vivendi. Virginie Morgon is still an independent Board member of L’Oréal.

She previously served on the Board of Directors of Abasic SL (Desigual, Spain) and Moncler and she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Moncler (Italy).[10]

Commitments to professional gender equality

Virginie Morgon is known as one of the most senior women in the still male-dominated private-equity world. She has been involved in defending gender equality and balance at senior level positions. In France, between 2009 and 2010, Virginie Morgon contributed to the preparation of a law setting quotas for gender balance on company boards.

In 2005, she co-founded the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society with Aude de Thuin and the support of influential French businesswomen.[11] More specifically, she led the Rising Talents initiative.[12] Since 2011, Virginie Morgon has been regularly included in Fortune’s Most Powerful Women International 50 list.

Commitments to human rights protection

Virgin Morgon is Vice Chair with Mercedes Erra of the Paris Committee for Human Rights Watch.[13]
