Maxwell MRT station (TE18) is a future underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line located at the boundary of Downtown Core and Outram, Singapore. It is located beside the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum.[1]

History

This station was first announced on 29 August 2012.[2]

On 15 August 2014, LTA announced that Maxwell station would be part of the proposed Thomson East-Coast line (TEL). The station will be constructed as part of Phase 3, consisting of 13 stations between Mount Pleasant and Gardens by the Bay, and is expected to be completed in 2021.[3][4]

The Contract T223 for the design and construction of Maxwell Station was awarded to Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure Pte Ltd at a sum of S$222 million on April 2014. Construction will start in 2014, with completion in 2021.[5]

This station will have stack platforms, and the station layout similar to Stevens MRT station of the Downtown Line. There are three options for the station - 'Maxwell', 'Neil Road' and 'Ann Siang Hill', in the end Maxwell was selected. During construction of the initial MRT system, the name 'Maxwell' referred to what was now Tanjong Pagar MRT station.
