Vernon François is a hairdresser (born 7th November, 1985) from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, UK.[1] He is known for his work in the natural hair movement,[2][3] particularly with curly hair[4] and afro textured hair.[5][6] He is the founder of the haircare line the Vernon Francois Collection, which was created in 2016.[7]
Early History
Francois was raised in Huddersfield, England in a Rastafarian household.[7] He learned to braid, loc and twist hair on a mop from the age of eight and taught himself how to blow dry hair using a fork.[1] By 14, he was employed in a salon on Oxford Street in London.[7] In 2016, he moved to Los Angeles.
Career
Named a top stylist in 2018[8] and 2019[9] by The Hollywood Reporter, François is known for styling the hair of Lupita Nyong’o,[10][11] Serena Williams,[12][13] Iman,[14] Solange Knowles,[15] Amandla Stenberg,[16] Denée Benton,[17] Willow Smith,[18] Danai Gurira[19] and Ava DuVernay.[20]
Since starting his career, he has been noted for his "creative, inclusive, and resourceful approach,"[7] and has had his work featured in Vogue,[21] InStyle,[7] Stylist,[22] The Hollywood Reporter[23] and Essence.[24] He has also appeared as a guest on The Wendy Williams Show,[25] Good Morning America[26][27] and BBC Radio 1Xtra.[28]
In 2017 he took part in the inaugural World Afro Day which included setting a world record for the world’s largest hair education lesson.[29]
