Kierland Commons is a lifestyle center on the border of Scottsdale, Arizona and Phoenix, Arizona. Though this site is actually located on city of Phoenix land, the Kierland Commons uses a Scottsdale address in order to take advantage of Scottsdale's reputation as a high-end, upscale suburb. The community began construction in 1995 and was completed in 2000. The primary developer was Woodbine Development Corporation of Dallas.
Kierland Commons is one of the best examples of the urban and luxury lifestyle center which became a popular retail development concept after the 1990's; it was the first such development in Arizona. Kierland is a sophisticated and eclectic mix of shopping, dining, entertainment, and residential experiences for both locals and affluent visitors. Its streets are packed with restaurants and upscale boutiques and retailers. The Kierland Commons includes The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, a world-class resort; the 27-hole Kierland Golf Club, and upscale residential lofts. A new residential tower is currently under construction on top of the parking structure.
The most popular destination, the retail area, has about 75 stores, restaurants and services on approximately 38 acres and cost about US$65 million; it (like many shopping centers in the Phoenix area) is managed by the Westcor division of the Macerich Company.
