The water polo tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place at the Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in Kōtō. Twenty-two teams (twelve for men and ten for women) will compete in the tournament, an increase of two from the previous editions.[1] Since Rio 2016, games that end in ties in elimination rounds are decided by shootouts, as overtime has been abolished since 2013.
