Operation Claw-Eagle and Claw-Tiger (Turkish: Pençe-Kartal Operasyonu and ) are two joint[3] ongoing Turkish Air Force and Turkish Land Forces external operations in Northern Iraq, mainly the Qandil Mountains, the Sinjar District, and Makhmur in Iraqi Kurdistan, ostensibly against Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) targets, as part of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict. It began on 15 June 2020.

    Operation Claw-Eagle

The Turkish government claimed that fighter jets have destroyed caves where the militants were taking shelter.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] The airstrikes also targeted the Makhmour refugee camp,[13] which hosts Kurdish refugees who fled from the fighting in Turkish Kurdistan in the 1990s.[14]

The Turkish Ministry of National Defence released a video of the air strikes, claiming 81 targets were destroyed.[15][16][17]

On 16 June, the Iranian military shelled the Choman area of the Qandil Mountains.[18]

    Operation Claw-Tiger

Turkey then launched Operation Claw-Tiger,[19] the land operation complementary to Claw-Eagle.

    Reactions

    • Arab league condemned the operation based on violation of Iraq's sovereign space.[20] Turkey criticized the declaration, on the claim of PKK itself affecting Iraq's sovreignty.[21]
