Nifty 50 / Dr Reddy

[edit]

Hi, I see you "corrected" the Dr. Reddy's Laboratories article to indicate that is in the Nifty 500 instead of the Nifty 50. However, as you can see at https://www1.nseindia.com/products/content/equities/indices/nifty_50.htm , it is still in the Nifty Fifty, and since that is more exclusive than the 500, that is the one that should be indicated. TJRC (talk) 00:31, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,sorry for any misunderstanding. I am just editing all the 500 company's pages to indicate that they are part of nifty 500.I meant no disrespect. VipinSingh1994 (talk) 00:39, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No disrespect taken, looks like a well-intentioned error. It's probably okay to add the Nifty 500 status (although it's probably redundant: are there any Nifty 50 companies not also on the Nifty 500 list?). Just don't remove the Nifty 50 indicator. TJRC (talk) 00:43, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I notice you're marking all your edits as "minor" even though they are not really minor. That should be used only for things like correcting misspellings, format erros, things like that. Substantive changes (like adding membership in a stock index) do not qualify. Have a look at WP:MINOR for guidance on when you should use that. Welcome to Wikipedia! NSE NIFTY 500 naming

[edit]

Hi,can i ask you to edit something?.Can you change the name of NSE NIFTY 500 page to NIFTY 500.Other nifty index pages does not have NSE in front of them like this one. It looks weird. VipinSingh1994 (talk) 01:03, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I would, but I'm not conversant enough with index names to know whether it should be moved; and is so, whether "NIFTY" should really be in all caps, i.e., perhaps Nifty 500 would be the best name.
It's had its present name for more than fifteen years, so I'm reluctant to just jump in and move it. You might want to follow the process at Wikipedia:Requested moves if you feel strongly about it. TJRC (talk) 01:10, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That is not the point.page of NIFTY 50 and NIFTY Next 50 also have NIFTY in caps but that is not the main point. There is already a NIFTY 500 page but it redirects to NSE NIFTY 500. I just want NIFTY 500 to become the main page.(VipinSingh1994 (talk) 01:16, 16 August 2020 (UTC))[reply]
No, I understand. I'm telling you: 1) I'm not convinced that it should be changed, since it's had that name for fifteen years, and the only person suggesting it be changed is a relatively inexperienced; 2) if it is to be changed, I'm not convinced that an all-upper case version is the right thing to change it to; 3) based on those two factors, I'm not willing to make the change myself; and 4) if you really believe it should be changed, follow the Wikipedia:Requested moves procedure. I only added that it is a component of nifty 500, which is a fact but you removed it.Are you implying that it is not the part of nifty 500. Should you not provide reliable source that proves that IndiGo is not part of nifty 500 before removing my edits. VipinSingh1994 (talk) 15:16, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You are a bit confused about the verifiability policy. Read WP:V and WP:BURDEN.--Jetstreamer Talk 15:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, got it.thanks. VipinSingh1994 (talk) 16:23, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your sweeping edits on multiple pages regarding the NIFTY 500 index

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you made multiple edits on the pages of companies belonging to the NIFTY 500 index. While I appreciate your edits and they seem to be backed by good intentions, it is unnecessary to state if a company is part of the index since the index is sparsely used in the Indian financial community. Not to mention the fact that most of the 500 companies don't even have articles on Wikipedia as of yet. Given how often such an index's constituents could churn it would be impractical to maintain a list of them all and constantly update them on Wikipedia leading to misinformation on multiple pages. I hope you understand that not everything is notable enough to be included on Wikipedia, kindly go through WP:NN for more details regarding notability. With this I would like to ask you to refrain from making any more such edits. If you have any further questions, leave me a message on my talk page. Debitpixie 💬 13:11, 16 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
