Dhyani is a Garhwali Brahmin family name from the northern Indian sate of Uttarakhand. The Dhyanis were primarily a priestly class who served as priests (Hindi/Garhwali: पंडित, paṇḍita) and teachers at the many Hindu temples in the Kingdom of Garhwal, including the holy temple of Badrinath which is part of the auspicious Hindu pilgrimage circuit of Char Dham.

The Dhyani are descended from a sage (Saptarshi) called Bharadwaja, and thus all Dhyanis have the same Bharadwaja Gotra, which means they are from the same ancestral root.
