Tasting Australia

Tasting Australia is Australia's premier food and drink Festival, which runs for 10 days in April/May each year. A South Australian festival, Tasting Australia is held in the capital city of Adelaide and regional South Australia. Tasting Australia It is an event which is owned and managed by the South Australian Tourism Commission, through its events arm Events South Australia. It was first held in 1997 and directly managed by an event management company Consuming Passions, with Ian Parmenter as Festival Director. Following the 2012 event the management of the event sits with Events South Australia, with renowned chef Simon Bryant (chef) as an integral member of the team delivering this world-class food and drink festival.

The festival was held biennially until 2016, when it became an annual event. The next Tasting Australia event will be held from 30 April - 9 May 2021.

Creative Team

The Creative Team of Tasting Australia includes the Festival Director, Food Curator, Drinks Curator and Patron.

Simon Bryant

Simon Bryant is the Festival Director for Tasting Australia.[1] Simon worked with the Hilton Adelaide for more than ten years, culminating in becoming executive chef.[2] He has worked alongside South Australian cook Maggie Beer, co-hosting more than 150 episodes of The Cook and the Chef on the ABC.[3] Simon has been the Festival Director since 2016.

Darren Robertson

Darren Robertson, is a renowned chef, owner of Three Blue Ducks in Bronte at first, and now Three Blue Ducks on The Farm at Byron Bay. Darren has previously been a visiting chef at Tasting Australia but joins for the first time as Food Curator in 2021.

Nick Stock

Nick Stock is one of Australia's most respected and prolific wine critics. His deep involvement in wine stretches well beyond wine-writing to show-judging, educating, broadcasting and winemaking.

Cheong Liew (Patron)

Cheong Liew took over from food Legend Maggie Beer as Patron of Tasting Australia in . Cheong moved from Malaysia to Australia in 1969. He received his first critical acclaim for his Adelaide based restaurant Neddy’s. However, he is probably best known for his prestigious restaurant The Grange, which opened in the Adelaide Hilton Hotel in 1995 and closed in 2009.
