Dyslexia, college career

[edit]

User:Alan Combs - please do not edit this article directly.

About the content you wanted to remove in this diff, that content is stuff you emphasized in your own autobiographical story. In my view it is an important part of the story. Nobody has a straight path in life and that you overcame dyslexia and 2 clinical programs that didn't want you, is an essential part of the story.

I spent quite a bit of time looking for independent biographies of you and was unhappy not to find things. I haven't gone to my library yet to look (I plan to) but are you aware of any other than Epoch Times piece? Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 04:54, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think that there are multiple issues here. In general, I very much agree about the importance of WP:COI matters, including the importance of page subjects avoiding direct page editing. However, I believe that the content discussed here also has obvious WP:BLP issues, and that BLP almost always outweighs COI. As previously written, the material sounded rather insulting, even though it had not been intended that way. Therefore, I removed it. However, I also added what I think is a more WP:NPOV and positive sentence about dyslexia. More broadly, I have been uncomfortable about the creation and acceptance of the page, because I am not entirely convinced about the subject satisfying the notability guidelines at WP:ACADEMIC. I am also somewhat inclined to shorten the publications list, per WP:NOTRESUME. --Tryptofish (talk) 14:44, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry to ask this, but did you read the source? Jytdog (talk) 14:56, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, albeit speedily. Are you implying that I missed something? --Tryptofish (talk) 15:03, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I am out of here. This is godawful already on many levels. The autobiography revels in these institutions not being able to deal with him - I used a quote to make that clear. Your restoration of Combs scrubbing of his past left the content a bit nonsensical as well. You cannot 'restart' something that hasn't stopped. Jytdog (talk) 15:05, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I said above, I believe that the BLP issues were unintentional, but I felt that the proper course of action was to address them. --Tryptofish (talk) 15:09, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Change title to Allan Leslie Combs

[edit]

Combs now goes by the first name "Leslie" and uses "Allan Leslie Combs" as his academic name. Notice that the latter name is used in several cited publications. Consequently either the title of the article should be changed accordingly, or a disambiguation entry should be made. (I am not qualified to do this or to determine which is the better alteration, but I know some people may not find the article because of that name change.)JCvP 22:16, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
