[edit]I'm fairly sure the correct name is 'Shakespears Sister', with no punctuation - that's how the albums were credited at the time. As it's a moot point and not too significant, I'll set up a redirect rather than moving the page. (Reason: I couldn't find this article). --kingboyk 02:45, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- Why the following mention - "The term Shakespeare's Sister first appeared in a section of the Virginia Woolf work......"? The title of this article does not have a third letter e in Shakespear, but the Woolf work does. There is no explanation why or if the Woolf work influenced the band name. Moriori 02:55, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
- The story I heard behind the spelling of the name was that they were going to be called "Shakespeare's Sister", but that the person designing their logo misspelled the name, and they decided to leave it that way (particularly as the spelling of the name wasn't standardised in Shakespear's (sic ;)) day). Better to confirm that fact before including in the article though. Fourohfour 16:21, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
The correct spelling is Shakespears Sister, they took the name from The Smiths song "Shakespeare's Sister" and changed around the spelling to distinguish themselves from the songPaul75 21:06, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
- FYI this page was moved incorrectly... looks like a cut & paste job and a redirect created instead of the "move" function... This breaks up the edit history, which is not the correct way to do this.... -- eo 11:53, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- While reading the introductory text of the 'Best Of' DVD (released in 2004), I noticed that SF mentions the name of the group three times, each time consistently as 'Shakespear's Sister'. The cover of the DVD also uses the same spelling. The same is true for the last page of the booklet (credits). Only once (center of the booklet) the apostrophe is missing. So, does anyone care to tell SF that she is ... err ... 'wrong' ? J Kahrs 23:22, 24 December 2006 (UTC).
No mention of Marcella Detroit?
[edit]Nowhere in this article is she mentioned, even though she was the other member of the duo known as Shakespears Sister. There is however a biography of Marcella Detroit already in wiki. Someone with alot more talent than myself should re-word the Shakespears Sister article to reflect this, and also link it to wiki on Marcella Detroit. Coradon (talk) 07:25, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
- Interesting. The article previously mentioned both women but somewhere along the line an editor must have taken Marcella completely out for some strange reason. I've added Marcella links back to the article. -- eo 11:58, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
not referencing woolfe, but williams
[edit]actually refers to Tennesse Williams play "The Glass Menagerie"
recurrent themes
[edit]Hello, I just bought and listened to the new "Best Of" DVD. When listening to all these songs in retrospect, I was a bit shocked by the lyrics and their recurrent themes. Especially the two hit songs "Stay" and "Hello" are obviously focused on death and dying. These lyrics must have been written by a person who is obsessed by the process of "fading away". The mental dynamics of a fading consciousness is hidden behind a wall of blindingly beautiful images and sounds. Could anyone with a broader knowledge of the lyrics add a section "recurrent themes" ? J Kahrs 11:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- This isn't really a good idea because the lyrics are open to interpretation and may not actually be about what Fahey & Detroit intended. Such guesswork should be left out of a Wiki article.79.66.21.60 (talk) 03:27, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Greetings from Germany
[edit]Whatever gave the author the idea to say the video for "Stay" was banned in Germany because of superstitious elements or praising witchcraft? I did't notice that. I am from Germany. I was 15 when it came out and don't remember anything about such problems, the video was running endlessly on german tv and was popular just like any other. Anyway have a nice day Satian —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.228.75.124 (talk) 18:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- True. I deleted that sentence.
links
[edit]please do not include fansites, there is only one official site, which is already listed. this saves confusion, thanks 92.13.53.79 (talk) 01:05, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Official Site
[edit]It would be greatly appreciated if you could include the official web site, as much of the information is referenced from there. This site is official and to validate this please see the inlay Songs From The Red Room. Inlay and there are various other places you can check this via the web. 92.0.153.204 (talk) 14:59, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
site is also linked on her official myspace page http://www.myspace.com/siobhanfaheyshakespearssi which she runs herself. so it must be official. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.12.101.114 (talk) 13:58, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Although this website has already been blacklisted as spam, I'll just say for the record that all the information on the website can be found in other, more reliable sources. No reliable source says that this is an official website, as well Several recent interviews with Fahey concerning her recent concert and upcoming tour make no mention of the fact of an official website. Also, I've noticed that this article focuses mainly on Siobhan Fahey. However, Shakespears Sister was most notable when Marcella Detroit was a member. In fact, most google news searches for Shakespears Sister mention Detroit's recent appearance on a TV show. By focusing on this one website and one point of view really biases this article, in my opinion. XinJeisan (talk) 19:23, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
The website should still be included as it is an official source. It has information from Fahey herself and links are given on both the inlay to Songs From the red Room and also the record label of Shakespears Sister. Siobhan Fahey has stated in many interviews that Shakespears Sister was HER name which she would use despite whatever form it took.86.5.47.151 (talk) 16:17, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Fahey IS shakespears sister. that site is her site and about her, marcy isnt really mentioned. 92.3.214.51 (talk) 09:34, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Shakespears Sister
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Shakespears Sister's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 06:39, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
“Neither have spoken nor seen each other since”
[edit]This sentence, regarding the split of Marcella and Siobhan in 1993, doesn’t seem to accurately reflect the source quoted (the FAQ at marcella-detroit.com). On that page, the only statement made is that Marcella did not know of the split before she heard it being read out by Siobhan’s husband at the awards show, and that they no longer speak. That is not the same as saying that neither has spoken or seen the other since that night.
Does anyone know where this phrasing (which is identical to the one on Marcella’s page) comes from, and whether it is verifiable? Kokoshneta (talk) 19:49, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Edit Warring
[edit]There has been lots of unsourced content added on here today, I've removed it all. The main issues of contention appear to be the years active and the Record labels, as I cannot see sources with these information, I've added citation needed tags. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:29, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
