A.G. Sulzberger (born August 5, 1980) is an American journalist and the Deputy Publisher of The New York Times.[1] He is the son of Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr., the Chairman of The New York Times Company and the Publisher of The New York Times.[2][3]

Early life

Sulzberger was born in Washington, D.C., the son of Gail Gregg and Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr., the grandson of Arthur Ochs "Punch" Sulzberger Sr., the great-grandson of Arthur Hays Sulzberger, and the great-great-grandson of Adolph Ochs.[2] His paternal grandfather was Jewish and his paternal grandmother a Presbyterian; his mother's family were Congregationalist.

He attended Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Brown University, graduating in 2004 with a major in political science.

Career

After college, Sulzberger wrote for the Providence Journal from 2004 to 2006, and the Portland Oregonian from 2006 to 2009.

In February 2009, Sulzberger began writing for The New York Times. His first article was published on March 2, 2009.[4]

He was named an Associate Editor of The Times in August 2015.[5] In October 2016, he was named Deputy Publisher, putting him in line to succeed his father as Publisher.[1][2][6]

In December 2017, it was announced that he would succeed his father as Publisher of The New York Times at the beginning of the following year.[7]
