Batavia High School, or BHS, is a public four-year high school located in Batavia, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It was created by the merger of West Batavia High School and East Batavia High School (and their separate school districts) in 1911 and is part of Batavia Community Unit School District # 101; the East Batavia and West Batavia athletic programs merged in 1909. The school is currently under construction.

Academics

In 2005, Batavia had an average composite ACT score of 22.2, and graduated 97.8% of its senior class. The average class size is 24.1. .[1]

Athletics

Batavia competes in the Western Sun Conference (since 2006) and is a founding member of that organization. The boys soccer team placed third in state in 1993. In 2006 the Bulldogs Football Season led all the way to state, placing second after a close game. The Girls Track team placed third in state in 2008. The school is a full member of the Illinois High School Association. Batavia's mascot is a Bulldog. Batavia's Rival is the Geneva Vikings, from Geneva High School, from Geneva, IL.

Music

There are approximately 500 students in the school involved in music, with 13 curricular ensembles and 8 extracurricular ensembles. [School enrollment is approximately 2,000 students.]

In 2007, over 15 Batavia High students went to the Illinois Music Educators Association.

Band

The current director of Batavia Band is Mr. John Heath. He is a recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award and a graduate of the University of Illinois. His Assistant is Ben Collins, a Batavia and University of Illinois Graduate.

Choir

Mrs. Lori Grant is the current choir director. She came to the school in the fall of 2003.

This year over 10 of her students made IMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association).

Orchestra

Miss Michelle Molnor is the current orchestra director and is also a graduate of the University of Illinois.
