Keramikou 28, also known as the Communitism building,[1] was a social art center in Athens, Greece closely resembling the Kunsthaus Tacheles in Berlin, Germany. It was housed in a neoclassical structure located at the Greek capital in the Metaxourgeio district on Keramikou 28 Street.[2] It functioned as a self-managed social center by a community of national and international artists who relocated to Athens during Documenta 14.[3]

The building was transformed into an arts center and used for exhibitions, performances, and initiative projects.[4] The building served as a venue to the Athenian subculture art scene,[5][6] both for emerging and established artists to exhibit their work and engage in creative pursuits outside traditional galleries and museums.

The End of Keramikou 28

In May 2023,[7] confrontations with the property owners arose due to the gentrification of the area where the building was evacuated with the intention of listing it on the real estate market. Today, the building of Keramikou 28 stands as a symbol of the Athenian art scene through the numerous exhibitions, performances, and projects hosted within its walls.[8]
