Kaveh Farrokh (born September 24, 1962, Athens) is an expert in the field of Iranian history and linguistics.[1] He has written and lectured on linguistics and has published two books on ancient Persian history, as well as acting as an historical advisor and expert for film and documentary makers.[2]
Life and education
Farrokh was born in Athens, Greece, and is of Ossetian and Azeri descent. He attended the Institut Chateaubriand in Cannes, France,[3] then went on to obtain his undergraduate arts degree (BA) in May 1985 and his Ph.D. in September 2001 from the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia,[4] where he specialized in the cognitive and linguistic processes of Persian speakers.[5][6]
Works
Farrokh has written two books and a number of articles for journals and online publications.[7][8][9][10] He has lectured at the University of British Columbia's Persian Legacy series and has presented at the conference of the World Association of International Studies, of which he is a member.[11] He also is a member of the Persian Gulf Preservation Society.[12] He also works as a counselor at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.[13]
Awards
Farrokh received the 2008 Persian Golden Lioness Award from The World Academy of Arts, Literature, and Media in London in the category of "Best History Work" for his book Shadows in the Desert: Ancient Persia at War.[14] The Persian Golden Lioness Awards recognize outstanding contributions to Persian-related arts, literature, and media.[15]
Media
Kaveh Farrokh has been interviewed on Voice of America's Persian service about the legacy of the Achaemenid founder Cyrus the Great.[16] The History Channel has also interviewed him on the topic of technology in ancient Persia for the series Engineering an Empire which aired in 2006.[17]
