TCM is a Latin American subscription television channel of American origin. It is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery and operated by Warner Bros. Discovery Latin America, under the international brand Turner Classic Movies. Its programming is aimed at an audience of 40 years and older.
Initially the channel specialized in showing classic Hollywood cinema from the 1930s to 1970s. However, starting in 2011 its window was expanded to films and television series from the 1980s to 2000s.
History
In September 2004, Turner Broadcasting System Latin America created TCM for Latin America, specializing in its beginnings in cinema from the beginnings of Hollywood to the 1970s, with a single simultaneous signal for the entire region and without commercials.
In October 2007, Turner acquired a package of seven channels from Claxson Interactive Group (Fashion TV, HTV, I.Sat, Much Music, Retro, Space and Infinito), among which was Retro, TCM's direct competitor.
On January 1, 2009, an exclusive signal was launched for Brazil, and on March 1 a signal for Argentina, in addition to broadcasting films in prime-time in their original language with subtitles. In April, Turner decided to merge Retro with TCM, moving the vast majority of its programming to the latter and replacing Retro with TruTV. In April 2009, TCM changed its on-screen image and subtly replaced its slogan, from Classic Hollywood to Classic Entertainment. In 2012 it changed its image once again and its slogan changed from Classic Entertainment to Turner Classic Movies.
On November 2, 2015, the channel premiered a new logo and image, focusing its programming on series and movies from the years 1980 to 2000.
