Peter Somogyi FRS FMedSci is the former Director of the Medical Research Council Anatomical Neuropharmacology Unit at the University Department of Pharmacology, University of Oxford, England.

Amongst many scientific honours he was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society in 2000, and awarded the first (together with hungarian co-winners Gyorgy Buzsaki and Tamas Freund) Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Foundation Brain Prize in 2011.

First Degree:1975, Biology, first class, (5 year course, including final year research project for a Degree equivalent to an M.Sc.) Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary.Graduating Thesis: Electron microscopic cytochemical studies on cholinesterases in the adrenal medulla (in Hungarian).

Second Degree: 1977, Ph.D., (summa cum laude) Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary. Title of Thesis: The Synthesis and Release of Acetylcholinesterase(in Hungarian).
