Re: the account you reported to AIV -- The reason they haven't *yet* been blocked is because their changes are more of a content dispute (e.g. adding in student council or unref'd info) than straight forward vandalism. I have given them one last warning re: personal attacks on their page and asked them to stop with the student council additions and I'll watch their contribs now. Thanks for patrolling - but I see you never answered the question above about creating an account. :Thanks for your explanation 7. I know it wasn't straight vandalism, which would have been dealt with quickly. My take was that we were dealing with dozens of edits, multiple reversions, and more than a little attitude, with the intent, presumably, of stuffing their or their friends' names into a Wikipedia article. For me the cumulative effect was meritorious, blockwise. That said, if I don't always understand or agree with blocking policies, I appreciate their overall rationale and the actions of administrators to whom they're entrusted. As for the account business: I've been questioned about that many times in the past, and at one IP long ago was even subjected to an impromptu yes or no vote by other contributors with the intent of pressuring me into creating an account. If I can dig up one of my previous incarnations I'll provide a link, rather than going through another tedious explanation. Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but many editors recommend that you create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (76.248.147.199) is used to identify you instead.

In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on this page. Again, welcome! Talkback

Hello, 76.248.147.199. You have new messages at Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests.
Message added 00:48, 22 December 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

The Oxford American Dictionary (2009), for example, gives us:

Wop: noun informal offensive. ORIGIN early 20th cent. (originally U.S.): origin uncertain, perhaps from Italian guappo ‘bold, showy,’ from Spanish guapo ‘dandy.’a contemptuous term for an Italian or other southern European.

To support your argument however, you will need to cite several reliable dico sources. As the article is about the word, any differences reported in various dicos can be mentioned in the article. It would be better than attempting to prove just one point of view or another, and would make the article more interesting. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:25, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your report to AIV

Hi, thank you for reporting the BLP violations and other issues by JohnC (talk · contribs). However, AIV is mainly intended for one administrator to make a decision, and hence it can only be used in clear-cut cases of vandalism, libel, or spam. I would recommend that you take the report to ANI for administrator review. Good luck! Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:23, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks--done. 76.248.147.199 (talk) 15:52, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A cupcake for you!

Thanks for your help with the copyright violations at Edgeworth Elementary School and Osborne Elementary School! Looking over your contributions it looks like you've been doing a lot of good work for the encyclopedia. Have you considered creating an account? It has lots of benefits. I'm watching this page so feel free to reply here. Thanks again, and welcome to Wikipedia! Lagrange613 16:58, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay: [1]; earned a few extra barnstars [2]; and apparently caused no small consternation for one friendly administrator trying to ascertain my identity [3]. So be it. 76.248.147.199 (talk) 02:11, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
