About Us

We are a community-driven project; however, we have no official position within Wikipedia. Our group strives to encourage fair treatment for all Wikipedia users and to improve civility in the community. If you have something to add to this page, then add it. If you have a goal that is relevant to the group, or way we could accomplish a relevant goal, then please tell us.

Our Goal

Our goal, put very simply, is to encourage the community to be more civil so Wikipedians may state their opinions in an appropriate manner. We hope to promote civility within the community to make Wikipedia a nicer place to work.

The Understanding of Rights & Responsibility as a Wikipedian

Every individual in our community has the right to express their own opinion, and we all should be allowed to do so in an appropriate manner. Editors should not discriminate against other editors for their beliefs or how they express them, so long as they have behaved suitably. If you have an issue with any user because of their actions, express your concerns to them in private (not in a public discussion, for instance) and do not hold their actions against them, but instead be civil and assume good faith. This helps make Wikipedia more easy to work in an helps prevent disputes forming.

Respect for the Five Pillars of the Wikipedia

These pillars form much of the basis of Wikipedia, and are central to it. They should be respected by all editors, no matter how long or much they have edited here. People should ensure their edits are within these base rules in order to retain structure within the community.

People Keeping Cool Heads

One pillar mentions keeping a cool head in a hot situation. This is easily broken, especially in high-profile straw polls. How about a nice cup of tea?

People should remain civil, if not friendly, to each other at all times and try to find common ground between one another through negotiation, as they would do in real life situations.

People should always follow Wikipedia's rules of civility, and they should be properly enforced.

Warning tags

You can use {{civil1}} and {{civil2}} to display these (respectively):

Template:Civil1

Template:Civil2

You can place these on user talk pages when you think appropriate.

Tasks

Currently, we need to get this program running. A list of tasks are below, feel free to edit.

Not Started Tasks

  1. Change the current templates for controversial topics to remind people to maintain civility.
  2. Begin to spread word on the Five Pillars, even reminding experienced users when we think they may have forgotten, and get more people to treat each other with respect. The manner we will do this will be decided nearer the time.

Ongoing Tasks

  1. Advertise CJ.
  2. Elect council for a 6-month term.

Completed Tasks

  1. Set up the temporary council.
  2. Expand this page and create templates for our members to use.

Governance

Currently, this Wikipedia Organisation is so small that we only have a temporary council. If you are interested in holding a long-term position on this council, an election will be underway shortly. Details can be found here.

The organisation is run by a seven-person strong council. Councillors then decide on major things. The current seats in the council are:

  1. Chairman: Computerjoe (talk)
  2. Chief Executive: Ian13 (talk)
  3. Councillor: Pureblade (talk)
  4. Councillor: Alf (talk)
  5. Councillor: Xchrisblackx (talk)
  6. Councillor: Eddie (talk)
  7. Councillor: The Giant Puffin (talk)
