Rafael Nadal was the defending champion, but chose not to compete this year. For the 2014 tournament, the surface was changed from clay to hard court. Grigor Dimitrov became the champion of the 1st hard court edition of the tournament. He beat Kevin Anderson in three sets, 7-6(1) 3-6 7-6(5).
