Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka were the defending champions, but Sabalenka withdrew from the tournament after contracting COVID-19. Mertens partners alongside Hsieh Su-wei.

Hsieh and Barbora Krejčíková are in contention for the WTA number 1 ranking at the beginning of the tournament. Hsieh can overtake Krejčíková by reaching the finals, unless the latter reaches the finals. In that case, Hsieh must win the title.
