It will be produced by Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz, Laura Fischer and Feig. The film follows the adventures of best friends Sophie and Agatha who are kidnapped to the School for Good and Evil. After their fortunes are reversed, Sophie and Agatha try to figure out a way to return home and their friendship is put to the test. It is set to be released in 2022 on Netflix

The film will star Sophia Anne Caruso as Sophie and Sofia Wylie as Agatha. Originally, Joe Roth partnered with Jane Startz Studios to acquire rights to the film. Development

Paul Feig is set to direct The School for Good and Evil

Shortly after the release of the first book of the series, Joe Roth partnered with Jane Startz Productions to acquire rights to produce a film based on the book. Universal Studios won the auction and a seven-figure deal for book and scriptwriting fees. Roth, Startz and Palak Patel were appointed producers and Chainani and Malia Scotch Marmo were set to write the screenplay.[8][9] In May 2020, Netflix announced that is would be taking over with Paul Feig as director, Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Startz, Laura Fischer and Feig producing and Zack Roth, Patricia Riggens and Chainani acting as executive producers.[10]

Casting

Fiona Weir was appointed casting director.[11] Weir opened casting for several roles.[12][13][14] On December 18, 2020, Feig tweeted that Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie had been cast as the leads in the film.[15] In January 2021, Weir closed the two of the casting calls.[16]

Filming

In January 2021, filming began at Belfast Harbour in Northern Ireland. Chief executive of Belfast Harbour Joe O'Neill said filming would take around seven months.[17] Production followed the British Film Commission safe working protocols.[18] Frog stated he was "absolutely thrilled" to be film at Belfast Harbour.[19]
