Howes was born on January 1, 1988, in Denver, Colorado and raised in Golden, Colorado, United States.[5][6] He resides in Boulder, Colorado[7][8] and Girona, Catalonia, Spain.[9][10] Howes attended the University of Colorado, Boulder.[11][12]
