Route 613, popularly known as the Dhahran–Jubail Expressway, is a 196 km (122 mi) long expressway connecting the Dammam metropolitan area to the industrial and port city of Jubail. The highway runs in the north-south direction for its entire length from the 'Aziziyah district of Khobar in the south to the industrial area of Ras Al-Khair north of Jubail.
The expressway is important to both the residents of Greater Dammam and Jubail. It also serves the cities of Qatif and Ra's Tanura along its route. Originally, the highway only ran north up to Jubail, but it was later extended to serve the new industrial Ra's Al Khair area. It is one of the only two roads that connects Jubail to the southern "Triplet Cities" of Khobar, Dammam and Dhahran with the other being Highway 95.
Route description
The expressway starts at a roundabout with Route 617 in the al-'Aziziyah district of Khobar. It runs north and intersects the Cooperative Council Road (Mashreq M80) 4.5 km into its route. Route 613 then continues north and intersects the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Road near al-Olaya in Khobar. The road constricts into a tunnel here and this creates a lot of traffic especially during morning hours as many residents of the area use this road to go to work.
Route 617 then continues northwest with interchanges for both Dhahran and Dammam in this part of its route. The road then passes by the King Abdul Aziz Center for World Culture and then turns back north toward Jubail. Throughout its length in western Dammam, it intersects three important highways, Route 40, Route 605 and Route 617.
West of 'Anak, it intersects Route 95, another highway which leads to Jubail, though it extends to Khafji and the Kuwaiti border. The road then continues north, intersecting Route 617 and Route 614 near Qatif and Ra's Tanura, respectively. It then starts running in a northwest direction again.
As it approaches Jubail, it intersects Jubail Expressway 1 and Route 3, both of which travel north into Jubail. The expressway ends at its intersection with Route 7990 near Ra's Al Khair.
